Northbrook Park District continues to consider improvements to the existing amenities at Techny Prairie Park and Fields, a 113-acre public park located at 1700 Techny Road. Many of the park amenities were built in 2006 and are now reaching the end of their useful life. The Park District is applying for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant and we are asking for your help!

Project elements planned for this busy community park include:

  • New playground with more accessible elements and synthetic turf safety surface
  • Trail Through Time improvements including forest therapy elements, new seating areas, and a new woodland path connection creating a new small loop
  • Batting cage renovations including new equipment, an ADA accessible stall, and modernized payment system
  • Renovations at Baseball Field #29 including field drainage improvements, dugout and bleacher shade structures, and new fencing, netting, scoreboard and site furnishings
  • A new tunnel for batting and pitching use with synthetic turf, portable mound, pitching screen and temporary pitching rubbers
  • Supplemental pond edge plantings, wildlife habitat improvements and educational signage
  • A new picnic shelter

Sign our petition to show your support of these park improvements and our application for a grant to help fund this renovation project.

Northbrook Park District continues to consider submitting an application for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to help fund a potential park renovation at Techny Prairie Park and Fields.

A Community Open House meeting is being held on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at Techny Prairie Activity Center, 180 Anets Drive. Members of the community are invited to stop by any time during the event to view Phase I renovation concepts for several amenities including the Trail Through Time, the playground, and the batting cages.

Information regarding already scheduled projects at this park, including ballfield work scheduled for Fall 2025 and basin pathway improvements coming in 2026, will also be on display.

Public input is very important to us and we hope you will stop by to learn about the project and provide comments on park amenities.

Northbrook Park District is considering improvements to the existing amenities at Techny Prairie Park and Fields, a 113 acre public park located at 1700 Techny Road. Many of the park amenities were built in 2006 and are now reaching the end of their useful life.

This busy community park offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities including baseball and softball fields, batting cages, turf athletic fields, fishing, golf, shelters, picnic areas, a playground, restrooms, a sled hill, naturalized areas and 2.4 miles of walking paths.

As part of this process, the Park District is considering submitting an application for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to help fund a potential renovation, and community input is needed.

We are offering three opportunities to share input regarding a potential renovation of existing amenities at Techny Prairie Park and Fields.
