All units have been installed and are waiting on weather technicians to bring them online for testing. These units are expected to be operational by the end of July 2026.

Technology is ever changing and lightning detection, as well as weather warnings, is a service provided to Northbrook Park District’s outdoor spaces. The new lightning detection and weather warning service system will provide patrons a warning both audio and visually when lightning is detected or if severe weather is pending.

The Park District is only replacing at park and facilities that already have an existing system in place as a 1-to-1 swap. In addition to the physical units in parks and facilities, there will be supplemental signs with information on how to access the data for areas that are not within hearing or seeing distance of the units.
