On January 27, 2026, the 2026 Annual Budget was approved by the Board of Commissioners with $120,000 allocated for Capital Improvements for ball fields this year. In addition, a carryover of $43,000 from 2025 will be utilized this year for additional improvements.

At the April 13 Committee of the Whole Meeting, the Board of Commissioners discussed this allocation, with the following recommendations included on the April 22, 2026 Regular Board Meeting Agenda for final consideration:

  • TPPF Softball Field #26: Install a sod buffer along baselines and behind home plate to address clay migration, along with clay surface improvements. This approach is consistent with successful upgrades on Field #27.
  • Meadowhill Park Baseball Field #2: Full infield sod installation and regrading, perimeter lip and clay improvements and installation of a limestone buffer along the dugout and backstop fencing. The project includes clay removal, limestone base, Red Tread mix and site restoration.
  • West Park Baseball Field #16: Full infield sod installation and regrading, perimeter lip and clay improvements and installation of a limestone buffer along the dugout and backstop fencing. The project includes clay removal, limestone base, Red Tread mix and site restoration.

The project is anticipated to begin in mid-August, with sequencing designed to minimize disruption based on field usage. West Park Field #16 is scheduled for mid-August, MeadowhillPark Field #2 in September, and TPPF Field #26 in October, with all work targeted for completion prior to winter to support readiness for the spring 2027 season. Baseball and softball programs may need to adjust schedules during construction.

August 19, 2024

On August 19, 2024, the Northbrook Park District Board of Commissioners accepted a Field and Court Assessment. The goal of the Field and Court Assessment is to evaluate the maintenance, programming and community needs for Northbrook Park District’s athletic fields and courts including the Velodrome track. The process included defining the current and projected program needs, collecting site and usage data, evaluating existing conditions and developing strategies for improvements, additions or re-purposing of the fields and courts. The final report is a synthesis of three main phases:

  • Phase 1: Data Collection and Assessment
  • Phase 2: Alternative Strategies
  • Phase 3: Preferred Strategies

The Project Team will use these strategies to guide improvement timelines. The field and court usage data, condition ratings and strategy goal designations will be key in helping determine budget and time needs to accomplish each strategy. Strategy implementation should be considered in conjunction with existing capital improvement projects, annual budgeting and funding opportunities.
