The Northbrook Park District tennis program includes neighborhood facilities and classes provided by the Northbrook Racquet Club, 2995 Dundee Road, and Glenbrook Racquet Club, 1801 Janke Drive. Classes are available for children and adults.
The District maintains 19 outdoor courts that are open from April 1 until mid-October. The District occasionally reserves courts for private lessons, tournaments, schools and league play. Notification of court closings are posted on the Tennis & Pickleball Courts page. A patron with an authorized permit from the Park District has priority over walk-on players. To reserve a specific court at the rental fee of $15/hour (resident) or $20/hour (non-resident), call 847-291-2993. League play and instructor led lessons are allowed only by permit.
1.0 Just starting to play tennis 1.5 Limited playing experience, working on getting the ball over the net 2.0 May have had some lessons but needs court experience 2.5 Has more dependable strokes, is learning to judge where the ball is going, has weak court coverage or is often out of position 3.0 Can place shots with moderate success 3.5 Has achieved stroke dependability, direction on shots within reach, including volleys, and seldom double faults 4.0 Has dependable strokes and uses a variety, including lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys (first serve can force some errors) 4.5 Has begun to master the use of power and spins, can serve with power and accuracy, can rush the net with some success 5.0 Has good shot anticipation ad an outstanding shot or is exceptionally consistent (can hit winners or force errors regularly and has good depth and spin on most second serves) Ages: 18 Years and Older Adults can learn tennis at any age and be able to enjoy an active, social workout with friends and family. Beginners will learn the basic strokes: forehand, backhand, serve and volley. Bring a racquet. Ages: 18 Years and Older This class is for players with more dependable strokes and some lesson experience. Classes focus on stroke production, ball control and player position. Ages: 18 Years and Older This class is for tennis player who have achieved stroke dependability and direction. Classes focus on control, depth, and power, along with tactics and competitive drills. Ages: 18 Years and Older Advanced players who have achieved stroke dependability, direction and power can take this class. The focus is on strategy, spin technique, power, court coverage and other advanced aspects of the game. Ages: 18 Years and Older Want a great workout with great instruction and fast paced drills? You do not need a partner, you just need to sign up on your own. We will make the teams and the rotations! This is an all play league, no drilling! League is leveled by ability and teams are rotated each week. Fun for all! For Court Rentals To guarantee the availability of an outdoor court, we recommend you rent a court. The fee is $15/hour per court for residents and $20/hour per court for non-residents. If a court is not being used for programming or rentals, courts are available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Private instructors must be issued a permit before conducting lessons. To request a court rental you must fill out an online Court Rental Request Form and staff will process the application within three business days or email Cameron Edelman at cedelman@nbparks.org or call customer service at 847-291-2993 Court Rules Help the Park District provide an enjoyable tennis season by following court rules posted at all facilities. Players must wear shirts on the courts and soft, rubber-soled shoes; black-soled shoes are not allowed. Only authorized tennis instructors are allowed to conduct lessons on Park District courts.
