The Northbrook Park District Youth Soccer program puts an emphasis on the development of the child as an individual and an athlete, rather than just on the competitive aspect of winning. The program strives to provide a fun and safe atmosphere where children can learn respect, sportsmanship and skills. All players receive equal playing time and are introduced to all positions. We offer soccer programming in the spring, summer, fall and winter.

Team Formation
Teams are organized by grade, school and gender but may be combined if necessary. Staff will contact you if changes are needed. Players will be added to teams with space available in the order of registration.
Rosters and Schedules
Coaches will contact players 1-2 weeks prior to the first scheduled game. Game schedules will be emailed to all registered players.
Equipment and Uniforms
Outdoor Soccer • The Park District provides uniforms (jersey, shorts and socks) that should be worn to all games, unless temperatures warrant sweat pants. Each player is responsible for the following: all-purpose athletic rubber cleats, shin guards and a ball (size #3 for pre-K-grade 2, #4 for grades 3-6).
Indoor Soccer • Wear exercise pants or shorts with shin guards and athletic shoes. Cleats should not be worn for indoor soccer. T-shirts are provided.
Practices and Games
Outdoor Soccer • Practices start one week before games; coaches will announce days, times and locations. Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grade play on Saturdays. Each team will play 7 games, weather permitting.
Indoor Soccer • League format is games only. Game times are between 11:30-5:30pm. Teams play five games at Greenbriar Elementary.
Coaches Appreciation Night
Volunteer coaches are a vital component of Northbrook Park District Youth Sports Leagues. As our way of thanking them, we invite all volunteer coaches and their families to attend a Coaches Appreciation Event.
Coach of the Year
Nomination Forms are available online and distributed with preseason information. The forms can be submitted at any time. The Athletics Department seeks coaches who have gone beyond the standard expectations with exemplary sportsmanship, training, team organization and/or commitment. The coach chosen for the award will be honored at the Coaches Appreciation Night.
Team Formation
Teams are organized by grade, school and gender but may be combined if necessary. Staff contact participants when changes are needed and will provide the parent an opportunity to decide if the change is right for their child.
Friendship requests are limited to only one friend and must be reciprocal. All friendship requests must be submitted prior to the early fee deadline. Team formation begins soon after the early fee deadline. Players registering after team formation begins are placed on a waitlist and added to teams if space is available, in the order of registration, without regard for school or friendship requests.

Become a Coach
Volunteer and make a difference today!
Volunteers are needed to coach our Youth Sports Leagues for approximately three hours per week; no experience is necessary. Not sure if you have what it takes? The Park District will conduct preseason training with an emphasis on player and skill development, sportsmanship and fun. Call 847-291-2993 or complete the volunteer coach application online.
Credit for Coaches
At the end of each season, volunteer athletic coaches will receive a $75 credit on their Northbrook Park District account if they have completed the following:
- Attended more than 75% of games and practices
- Completed CDC Concussion Training Course
- Returned equipment bag
No more than two coaches per team can receive the credit, and adults who are removed from coaching duties are not eligible. If you prefer to give the credit to another coach, notify the Park District before the last game of the season.
