The Northbrook Park District is excited to invite the community to a Pop-Up Playground Party this Thursday to celebrate the ribbon-cutting for the renovation project at Greenfield Park.
The Northbrook Park District will hold the free event from 6:30-7:30pm on Thursday, August 8 at the park, 2950 Harbor Lane in Northbrook. Children and families can enjoy face painting, music and giant bubbles, along with refreshments and free giveaways. Greenfield Park is a 4.9-acre neighborhood park equipped with two playground structures, one for ages 2 to 5 and one for ages 5 to 12, and a bank of swings. Benches and picnic tables surround the playground with a basketball court nearby. The park also features two ball fields, an outdoor recreation area, an ADA-accessible pedestrian path, and a drinking fountain with a bottle filler and dog bowl.
The park’s renovation project was partially funded by a $250,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity opens in new tab.
State Sen. Julie Morrison opens in new tab, who sponsored the DCEO grant, will attend the August 8 event.
“I was pleased to secure $250,000 for the new Greenfield Park playground — a fun and innovative space kids will enjoy for decades to come,” Sen. Morrison said. “I appreciate the work and advocacy of the Northbrook Park District that led us to bring this project to fruition.”
Greenfield Park is located at the east end of Sky Harbor Business Park. In the early 1960s, J. Willis Green served as chairman of the Sky Harbor Park Committee, which lobbied for a park to be built for children in the area. The park originally was known as Green Field Park; over time, the words were combined to become Greenfield Park. The renovation project at Greenfield Park is part of the Northbrook Park District’s annual Capital Improvement Plan, which also includes renovations scheduled for completion in late summer and early fall at Wescott Park and Williamsburg Square Park.
