The Northbrook Sports Center is home to two NHL-size ice rinks, community rooms, the Glenkirk Cafe concessions stand, and Ron’s Skate Shop.
Outdoor Skating is available at Meadowhill Park and Tower Rink. The outdoor ice rinks are not supervised. Hockey is allowed at Meadowhill Park Ice Rink but not at Tower Rink.
The District is currently following COVID-19 Tier 3 Mitigations including the following guidelines for the outdoor rinks:
The District needs 72 hours of weather below 15 degrees to begin freezing the rinks, followed by at least 5 days of below-freezing weather before skating is allowed. Skating and sledding involve a risk of injury; therefore, participation is at your own risk.

The Northbrook Sports Center hosts several events throughout the year: local, regional, national and international hockey tournaments, figure skating and speed skating tournaments. The Northbrook Sports Center can also accommodate large events such as Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, corporate events and meetings, community events and the annual production of Northbrook-On-Ice.
Northbrook-On-Ice captures the hearts of those who participate each year and of those who watch the spectacle of skill. The annual event has been called the best amateur ice show in the country and has dazzled spectators since 1969.
The Northbrook Winter Welcome is an ISI competition held every December at the Northbrook Sports Center.
The winter recital is a celebration of the winter holidays, open to skaters enrolled in a Northbrook Sports Center program. Many of the skaters choreograph their holiday-themed programs.
Is your child ready for skating lessons? The Northbrook Park District offers a free class, twice each year, for children ages 3 and older who have never taken skating classes. Our professional staff teaches basic skating skills and determines readiness for class.
Try it out… See what Northbrook-On-Ice is all about! Join us for a free rehearsal, followed by highlighted performances from last year’s production. Skaters will learn a short routine from our trained professionals.
Campers enjoy daily skating instruction, practice time and an off-ice dance class. This popular camp groups children by grade and skating level. Skaters present a short recital for family and friends.
The Northbrook Sports Center is offering a summer program for skaters in FS 1 and up who are interested in specialized training to help develop their skating skills. Participants will experience freestyle ice, on-ice and off-ice specialty classes each day. Program shirts, yoga mat, and a daily pool pass are included in the fee. Bring a sack lunch, gym shoes and a water bottle every day. An ISI skating school test session (for FS 1-6) will be scheduled for the last day of each session.
Skaters of all levels and ages are welcome to practice and compete with the Northbrook Speed Skating Club. A club priority is having experienced coaches dedicated to advancing the fun and technical aspects of the sport. The coaches have years of experience teaching speed skating to beginner through elite skaters. They have competed in speed skating at the national and international levels.
Skaters 6 years and older who are enrolled in the Northbrook Park District skating school can join this team to participate in area competitions and gain at least 45 minutes of practice time per week.
