The popular and timeless holiday classic “A Christmas Story” will start its run next week at the Northbrook Park District’s Northbrook Theatre.
Sure to entertain the whole family, the play is based on the humorous writings of author Jean Shepherd and the 1983 movie “A Christmas Story.” It was adapted by Philip Grecian.
The story centers on young Ralphie, who gets into charming holiday misadventures while determined to show his parents, teacher and Santa that a BB gun is the perfect Christmas present.
The production’s cast involves members of six different families, said Northbrook Park District Performing Arts Supervisor Melody DeRogatis.
“‘A Christmas Story’ has been entertaining American families over the holiday season for over 40 years,” DeRogatis said. “Our community theatre program offers a unique opportunity for families to partake in a production together, and this experience is even more special when we get to recreate a story enjoyed by many families across generations.”
Performances are at 7pm on Friday, December 13, at 2pm and 7pm on Saturday, December 14 and at 12pm on Sunday, December 15. Tickets are $15.
Performances take place at Northbrook Theatre, located inside the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue in Northbrook.
Northbrook Community Theatre is one of three theater companies under the umbrella of Northbrook Theatre. The others are Northbrook Theatre Youth Company, which features actors ages 8 and up, and Northbrook Theatre for Young Audiences, performed by professional actors.
