The Northbrook Park District is asking the community to provide input regarding potential improvements at Techny Prairie Park and Fields.

Many of the amenities of the 113-acre public park at 1700 Techny Road were built in 2006 and are now reaching the end of their useful life.

This busy community park offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities, including baseball and softball fields, batting cages, turf athletic fields, fishing, golf, shelters, picnic areas, a playground, restrooms, a sled hill, naturalized areas and 2.4 miles of walking paths.

As part of the process, the park district is considering submitting an application for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant opens in new tab from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources opens in new tab to help fund a potential renovation.

“Techny Prairie Park and Fields is one of our most treasured and well-used parks,” Northbrook Park District Executive Director Chris Leiner said. “Many of its features have served the community well for nearly 20 years, and now it’s time to reinvest in them. We’re not looking to reinvent the wheel — we’re focused on taking care of what we have and making something good even better. Community input will help ensure that any updates reflect what matters most to the people who use this park every day.”

The park district will offer three opportunities for community members to learn more about the park and share their thoughts about potential improvements.

  • A one-hour community meeting led by project consultants at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 22 at Techny Prairie Activity Center (Prairie Room), 180 Anets Drive, Northbrook.
  • A community drop-in style open house during National Night Out from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 at Meadowhill Aquatic Center, 1501 Maple Avenue, Northbrook.
  • An online survey opens in new tab available through Wednesday, Aug. 6.
