Popular ‘Wake Up, Brother Bear!’ Production Returns to Northbrook Park District
The Northbrook Park District is excited to welcome back another theater production of “Wake Up, Brother Bear!” which will again delight the little ones. The interactive performance will have audiences watch a waterfall melt, meet a butterfly, chase an elusive fish and skate on an icy pond. Children are invited to join the action to help create an enchanting experience during the 40-minute production with no intermission.
Northbrook Park District Earns Budget Award for 24th Consecutive Year
For the 24th consecutive year, the Northbrook Park District received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. Receiving the award annually since 2000 is a testament to the park district’s finance department’s unwavering commitment to transparency, excellence and fiscal responsibility.
Northbrook Park District Looking for Applicants for Facilities Positions
The park district currently has two open positions in its facilities department: part-ice resurfacer driver and part-time custodian. The positions come with benefits including free access to the park district’s recreation and fitness programs, pools and dog park.
Get Ready for Halloween with 3K and Pet Parade on October 20
Humans and their favorite animal companions can get a jumpstart on the Halloween spirit with a medley of events October 20, including the Halloween Pet Parade and the Halloween 3K Fun Run/Walk. Registration deadlines are October 18.
Northbrook Park District Invites Community to Say Goodbye to Oak Tree
A celebration in honor of a centuries-old bur oak tree that has died will take place Sunday in Northbrook. The goodbye event will feature crafts and activities, along with a chance to learn about the tree’s history, from noon to 2pm on October 15 at Village Green Park.
Have Fall-Tastic Fun at Autumnfest on October 7 in Northbrook
Just as the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, the annual Northbrook Autumnfest will once again offer fall-tastic entertainment for kids and families. The free festival is sure to draw enthusiastic crowds from 2-5pm on October 7 at Meadowhill Park in Northbrook.
Oaklane Park Renovation Project
The Northbrook Park District is excited to announce the start of the upcoming renovation project at Oaklane Park, 636 Berglund Place. Construction began in April 2023 with project completion scheduled for late fall of 2023. This park is closed until construction is completed.
Touch-A-Truck Will Be Back Saturday in Northbrook
If you want to see your child’s face light up, watch them touch and explore a variety of trucks and emergency vehicles during Touch-A-Truck in Northbrook, a longstanding family favorite. The free event, offered by the Northbrook Park District in partnership with UL Solutions, takes place 10am-12pm on September 23 at Underwriters Laboratories, 333 Pfingston Road in Northbrook.
Northbrook Park District Hall of Fame Inductees Share Memories, Thank Community
Four accomplished athletes and two dedicated volunteers recently inducted into the Northbrook Park District’s Hall of Fame said they are proud to be from Northbrook and grateful for the sports-related opportunities afforded them locally. The six individuals made the remarks during an August 28 ceremony in their honor attended by relatives, friends and community members at Heritage Oaks Golf Club in Northbrook.
Chris Leiner Appointed Executive Director of Northbrook Park District
Chris Leiner was Northbrook Park District’s director of parks and properties for 19 months before being selected by the board of commissioners to lead the district starting September 1. He previously worked for seven years as director of parks and planning for the Glencoe Park District, where he was part of the team that earned a 2019 National Gold Medal for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management from the American Academy for Park and Recreation in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association.
