The Meadowhill Aquatic Center Bathhouse and Mechanical Upgrades Project has been identified as an eligible project for an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) in 2024. Following consensus from the Parks and Properties Committee at the October 14, 2022 meeting, staff proceeded to prepare an OSLAD eligible project scope for submission to the IDNR. FGMArchitects (FGMA) conducted an assessment of Meadowhill Aquatic Center to evaluate its existing conditions in 2022 and was officially engaged in February of 2023 to develop the project scope while Hitchcock Design will handle the grant application preparation.

Following an assessment of Meadowhill Aquatic Center to evaluate its existing conditions in 2022, the following areas in need of attention were identified:

  1. Mechanical filtration and circulation equipment is at the end of its useful life.
  2. Repairs are necessary to the pool tanks and gutter system.
  3. Installation of a fire suppression system in the facility will be required with the mechanical renovation.
  4. Select areas of the pool deck are in poor condition.
  5. Various ADA improvements are required to meet code.
  6. Floor drainage issues exist in the locker rooms.
  7. The shingle roof is at the end of its useful life.

Upgrades will also enhance the public’s entry and admissions experience into the bathhouse with updates to the locker rooms and restrooms, including the proposed addition of two accessible gender-neutral changing rooms to be built within the existing footprint of the facility.

The preliminary estimated project cost for these carefully selected upgrades would be $3.56 million. The maximum OSLAD grant program award would be $600,000 for fiscal year 2024. The program’s application deadline is August 31, 2023.

With community input, the District completed and adopted a ten-year Comprehensive Master Plan which includes an annual Capital Improvement Plan. Community input conducted with this planning has indicated a priority for maintaining the District’s current assets.

To gather the community’s input regarding project plans for upgrades, the District is hosting an open house on Tuesday, August 1 from 6-7:15pm at Meadowhill Aquatic Center. If you are unable to attend the Open House, comments may also be submitted through an online survey.
