The weather might still be cold, but it’s time to start planning for spring and summer activities – and there is no better place for great programs, classes and special events than the Northbrook Park District.
The Northbrook Park District’s Spring into Summer brochure outlines all upcoming options this spring and summer for children and adults.
Youth leagues include lacrosse for boys in kindergarten through 8th grade starting March 16, soccer for children in pre-K through 6th grade starting April 11, and girls’ lacrosse featuring under-8 and under-14 teams starting April 14.
Adult sports include pickup basketball starting April 8, pickup soccer starting March 26, and softball leagues (both coed and men’s) starting in early May.
Spring special events open to residents and nonresidents this spring include favorites like Brunch with the Bunny on April 11, MLB Pitch, Hit and Run on April 24, and Spring Tea on May 2.
After a hiatus of a few years, the Punt, Pass and Kick Challenge, a football skills competition in a non-contact environment for children ages 6 to 14, will be back on March 8.
The Northbrook Park District’s newest event, Dodgeball Duos Night, takes place March 14. Parents and children can team up for some friendly dodgeball competition, and enjoy pizza with new friends afterwards.
The Northbrook Park District features two pools: Meadowhill Aquatic Center, which will open May 23, and Northbrook Sports Center Pool, opening June 6. Summer pool passes are available for purchase with early bird savings ending May 6.
Pool safety is among the topics that children ages 4-6 can learn during Safety Town Week, a one-week program running May 26-29. Children travel within miniature city streets to learn about traffic safety, street crossing and bicycle safety, along with fire safety, using 911 and more.
The Northbrook Park District is home to Northbrook Theatre, whose upcoming production will be “High School Musical 2 Jr.” presented by Northbrook Theatre Youth Company on April 11-12.
Auditions for the all-ages cast of “Freaky Friday” presented by Northbrook Community Theatre will take place March 16, while auditions for “Head Over Heels (High School Edition)” presented by Northbrook Theatre Teen Company will take place July 6.
The Spring into Summer brochure also outlines details about summer camp options for children ages 3 to 14 from June through August.
Families can choose from among dozens of summer camps, including arts, theater, dance, chess, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, skateboarding, dance, ice skating, hockey and golf.
There are half-day camps for ages 3 to 5 and full-day camps for ages 5 to 14. Many camps offer the option to attend one week at a time, and extended camp care features morning and afternoon sessions.
Teenagers ages 14-15 who are interested in gaining hands-on experience and leadership skills can take part in the Counselor in Training program offered in June and July. Participants are placed at a camp for ages 5-7 where they assist staff with daily activities, and lead games and crafts.
The Northbrook Park District’s before-and-after school care program, Adventure Campus, is still accepting registration for the current school year. Information about registration for the 2026-27 school year will be posted at nbparks.org/adventurecampus starting February 23.
