Before registration opens for new students, the Northbrook Park District invites the community to attend a Sunshine Preschool Open House on Sunday, January 11.
Parents can meet the teachers and learn about the preschool curriculum for 3- and 4-year-olds, as well as meet early childhood instructors and find out about the rich variety of programs offered by the Park District for children up to age 5.
Activities for children will be set up in the classrooms and light refreshments will be available.
“We are looking forward to showcasing the wonderful program that Sunshine Preschool is at our upcoming Open House,” Recreation Supervisor Maria Warren said. “With the exciting renovation of the Northbrook Community Center completion before the 2026-27 school year, our next classes of 3- and 4-year-olds will be the first to experience new preschool classrooms. These classrooms will match the bright, kind, special teachers, students and community that we experience every day here.”
Sunshine Preschool offers early childhood education with a focus on play and exploration. Children are taught by trained teachers who specialize in early childhood development and education.
Classes for 3-year-olds focus on sharing, taking turns, engaging with other children and developing friendships. Classes for 4-year-olds build on these skills with the addition of hands-on learning in early literacy, math, science and social studies.
Parents of Sunshine Preschool students praised the quality of education and the warm, loving environment provided by teachers.
“For the past three years, the amazing teachers at Sunshine Preschool have helped my children learn, grow and thrive in a positive, nurturing and play-based environment,” parent Jennifer Obringer said.
Sunshine Preschool has left a lasting impact on her three children aged 4 to 12, parent Sana Ahmed said.
“There is nothing more heartwarming than watching your child run into the classroom with a huge smile on her face — and that transformation is entirely because of the love, patience and individualized attention (the teacher) gives to every single child.”
Families can drop in anytime between 10am and 12 pm on Sunday, January 11 for the Sunshine Preschool & Early Childhood Open House at the Northbrook Sports Center, located at 1730 Pfingsten Road in Northbrook. Registration for new families opens at 9am on January 12 at nbparks.org.
