After last year’s success, the Northbrook Park District’s Bike the Green Community Ride is returning July 24 to downtown Northbrook.
The park district’s free outdoor events take place in conjunction with the Northbrook Grand Prix opens in new tab, which features professionals competing throughout the day in cycling races around Village Green Park – located at 1810 Walters Avenue (at the intersection of Shermer Road and Meadow Road) in Northbrook.
Attending Bike the Green is a great way to enjoy watching the cycling competition while having fun with outdoor activities at the park, said Northbrook Park District Youth Program Manager Mary Freer. The event will wrap up with the Community Ride, which last year attracted about 100 children and adults.
“Families can cheer on elite cyclists, then join the fun by hopping on their own bikes to ride the course together during the Community Ride,” Freer said.
Freer was among park district staff members who worked at the event last year, and is looking forward to doing so again this year.
“I’m excited to see the professionals race through downtown Northbrook,” she said. “It’s a thrilling experience and something you don’t get to witness every day.”
Bill Davis, marketing coordinator for the Northbrook Grand Prix, said downtown Northbrook and Village Green Park will be an exciting place to be on July 24.
“We are very grateful for the Northbrook Park District, as their Bike the Green community event offers families of all ages even more ways to enjoy the bike races going on around Village Green Park,” he said.
Schedule of Events
4pm-6pm • Bike decorating, face painting, tricycle races, inflatable, snacks. Check-in for the Community Ride.
6pm-6:15pm • Line up for the Community Ride
6:15pm-6:45pm • Community Ride around Grand Prix course
6:45pm • Medals/Finish
Bikes are not required to enjoy the outdoor activities in the park.
Bikes and helmets are required for the Community Ride around the Grand Prix course. Electric bikes or scooters are not allowed at the event or on the course. Participants must fill out a USA Cycling Waiver at check-in on July 24 to participate in the Community Ride.
