Community TIES is a new childcare program offered by the Northbrook Park District to assist children with remote learning days. The program is for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade and is held at the Northbrook Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road, Northbrook.

The caring and experienced program staff members provide supervision as well as assistance for virtual learning lessons. A low staff to child ratio of 1:10 is maintained.

In addition to the academic support provided to assist children in their remote classrooms, the program offers a variety of additional opportunities as well. From games and sports to arts and crafts, children enjoy a full day of academic and recreational activities.

From a safety perspective, children and staff members are required to wear face coverings and maintain 6 feet of physical distance. When playing outside and physical distancing is maintained between participants, masks may be removed. The program areas at the Northbrook Sports Center are cleaned and sanitized following guidelines and protocols provided by the CDC and IDPH.

Students bring their own academic materials each day including electronic devices and headphones or ear buds; internet access is provided. In addition, students provide their own lunch, snack and drinks daily.

“We are so excited to offer this amazing opportunity to our community,” said Recreation Division Manager Katie Kotloski. “Community TIES is a great place to learn and play!”

The deadline to register for Community TIES is Tuesday, September 15. Flexible scheduling offers families the opportunity to build a plan that fits their child’s remote learning dates. Program hours are 8:00am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Registration is available online at nbparks.org.
