Witness mischief, mayhem and plenty of laughs when the Northbrook Theatre for Young Audiences presents Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat!

The literary favorite runs October 12-November 3 at the Northbrook Theatre, 3323 Walters Avenue. With the trickiest of tricks, The Cat in the Hat turns a rainy afternoon into a magical experience. The show is full of surprises, including appearances by some of Chicago’s top circus performers to help bring the beloved book to life.

“This fast-paced, exciting show is fun for the whole family,” said Director Leda Hoffman. “There will be jokes, tricks and incredible feats to wow audiences of all ages.”

Hoffman said The Cat in the Hat will follow the book’s plotline, so audiences will see the story and moments they expect—with some added thrilling elements. The Cat will be played by Amanda Crockett, who performed a lead role for Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson ONE.

The cast also includes aerialist David Corlew, along with a variety of other actors bringing their physical performance experience to the stage.

“What’s different is this is a live show,” Hoffman said. “You might have always wondered, ‘How does the cat balance on the ball?’ ‘How does the fish fly into the teapot?’ These are all the things you’ll get to see!”

The Northbrook Theatre is offering a Sensory-Friendly performance Sunday, October 27 at 2pm designed to make the theatre space more inclusive and accessible to audience members and their families with varying sensory sensitivities.

“Audiences can expect a more relaxed atmosphere at our Sensory-Friendly performances,” said Performing Arts Manager Erin Sweet. “Sensory-Friendly performances flip the conventional theatre environment and eliminate the structure, giving audience members the opportunity to view a performance and respond to it as they are most interested in and comfortable doing.”
