Northbrook Speed Skating Club

Established in 1952, the Northbrook Speed Skating Club has a long and proud association with the Northbrook Park District. Many Olympic skaters have trained and practiced at the Northbrook Sports Center with the Speed Skating Club.

For over 70 years, the Village of Northbrook had a speed skater in every Winter Olympics (from 1952 through 2018). Northbrook became known as the Speed Skating Capital of the world after two skaters who trained here won gold medals in the 1972 Winter Olympics. On September 29, 1995, the Northbrook Park District and Northbrook Speed Skating Club hosted an awards dinner to honor 17 Olympic speed skaters from Northbrook who brought international recognition to the Village. After the dinner, the skaters were inducted into the newly-established Northbrook Park District Sports Hall of Fame.

Skaters of all levels and ages are welcome to practice and compete with the Northbrook Speed Skating Club. A club priority is having experienced coaches dedicated to advancing the fun and technical aspects of the sport. Coaches have years of experience teaching speed skating to beginner through elite skaters. They’ve competed in speed skating at the national and international levels.
