Auditions are required in order to assess each individual actor’s comfort level as a performer, evaluate their skills and find the role that will best fit their personality and talent.
General Audition Information for Musicals
What to Expect
Each participant will sing a musical theatre song of their choice, perform an excerpt of the script (provided by the director), and learn a short dance combination with a group. The program supervisor, choreographer, music director/accompanist, and director, as well as other actors auditioning in the same group, may be present during auditions.
What to Prepare
All participants should prepare 1 minute of a musical theatre song. Sheet music must be provided by the participant. The music should be hole-punched within a binder for the piano accompanist. Please ensure that sheet music has a vocal line as well as a line for the accompaniment below it. If you need assistance with music, contact David Zizic.
What to Wear
Participants should wear clothes and closed-toed shoes they are comfortable moving in. Dance shoes welcome, but not required.
General Audition Information for Plays
What to Expect
Each actor will participate in solo and/or group scenes as given by the Director. Actors may also engage in technical theatre games to assess acting ability, listening skills, and general movement throughout the space. Actors may be asked to prepare a monologue.
What to Prepare
Nothing specifically unless given a scene prior to the audition.
What to Wear
Participants should wear clothes and close-toed shoes they are comfortable moving in.

In this timeless Neil Simon play, newly-minted teacher Leon is tasked with educating the people in a town cursed with chronic stupidity. In order to break the curse, Leon must educate the dumbest person in the village. Packed with puns and general buffoonery, this play will have actors and audience members alike laughing out-loud, non-stop! Come join us!
This will be Northbrook Community Theatre’s first all adult-cast play in their new Studio Theatre space.
Auditions will be September 16 from 6:00-9:00pm, and will consist of reading scenes from the script. The rehearsal schedule is as follows:

Tech week rehearsals will be held to integrate sound, costumes, and lights. Tech rehearsals will be held 11/2, 11/3, 11/4, and 11/5 from 6:00-9:30pm. Performances will be November 6 and 7 at 7:00pm, and November 8 at 2:00pm.

Meanwhile, newspaper editor Francis grapples with writer’s block and the stability of his future. Can the magic of the holiday season shine through, even in the face of doubt? will be held 11/9 from 5:30-8:30 pm. Auditions will consist of reading scenes from the script.
Rehearsals will be as follows:
11/11, 11/12– 5:30-7:30pm
11/16, 11/18– 5:30-7:30pm

Tech week rehearsals will be held to integrate sound, lights, and costuming into the production. Tech week rehearsals will be held 12/7, 12/8, 12/9, and 12/10 from 5:30-8:30pm. Performances will be 12/11 and 12/12 at 6pm, and 12/13 at 2pm.
