A portion of the east field at the Turf Fields at Techny Prairie Park and Fields has been closed due to vandalism over the Fourth of July weekend.
A four-foot square section of the field sustained heavy damage from the launching of illegal fireworks on the turf. This has caused an unsafe condition, and a portion of the field is now roped off and unavailable for play. This act of vandalism has caused the need for expensive repairs to the artificial turf and requires partial closure of this popular amenity.
The turf fields were renovated in 2019, 13 years after they were installed. This replacement schedule outlasted the regular ten-year life span of the turf material by three years due to regular and diligent care of this important District amenity.
Personal use of fireworks is both dangerous and illegal. Those who might know anything about the incident over the weekend are encouraged to call the Village of Northbrook Police Department non-emergency number, 847-564-2060.
