Northbrook Park District’s newly opened facility for fitness and recreation—Techny Prairie Activity Center (TPAC)—has been named the 2021 New Fitness and Recreation Facility of the Year by Club Marketing and Management Services International.

TPAC opened its doors to the public on January 1, 2021 at 180 Anets Drive in the scenic Techny Prairie Park and Fields. This state of the art facility features a spacious 6,000 square foot fitness floor with new cardio, strength and functional fitness equipment, an indoor walking track, gymnasium and bright, modern group fitness studios. Boasting a forward-thinking design, TPAC was built as a Net Zero Energy building—generating energy with solar panels to offset the facility’s energy consumption.

“We are so proud to receive this recognition,” said Executive Director Molly Hamer. “Opening a center where the community can work out, play and connect has been a longtime goal of the Northbrook Park District, and it’s exciting to see the building in operation. I have no doubt it will exceed our expectations.”

The facility was selected because of its unique approach to fitness and recreation, said Mark Davis CEO of CMSI.

“TPAC is significantly ahead of your standard gym when it comes to looking to the future of the fitness and recreation industry,” Davis said.  “It is the first fitness and recreation facility in the United States to win this coveted award.”

Facilities in 63 countries and more than 900 locations were considered for the award.

“This is not only a great honor, but a testament to the work done by the planning department, architect and construction company,” said Angus Shields, Recreation Division Manager. “TPAC is a phenomenal facility and wonderful addition to the high quality recreation options offered by the District.”

TPAC is offering fitness specials throughout the month of January, including no enrollment fees and reduced daily rates. For more information, visit nbfitness.org or call 847-897-6180.
