Project Construction In Progress95% Completion

95% Complete

The Northbrook Park District is excited to announce the start of the upcoming playground equipment replacement project at Stonegate Park, located at 3425 Whirlaway Drive. The playground was installed in 1999, is now 24 years old and has approached the end of its life cycle.

To gather the community’s opinion, the District sent out two mailings to the Stonegate Park neighbors in 2022. The first was a survey to discover how the playground is used and what type of playground equipment residents would like to see in this park. The second was an invitation to vote on two playground designs developed from the survey results.

Based on the initial survey:

  • 98.33% use the walking path
  • 63.33% use the playground
  • 45.00% use the picnic shelter

The winning playground, pictured below, was selected by the neighborhood with 79.78% of the vote.

The Park Board of Commissioners has approved the purchase and installation of new playground equipment for this park, installation of a synthetic turf safety surface for the playground and a new shade structure to replace the picnic shelter. Enhancements will also be made to the paving and lighting this Spring.

Construction is currently scheduled to begin on or after March 20, with completion in late June 2023. Please note, the project timeline is dependent upon supply chain and equipment delivery as well as weather conditions. During the replacement, the playground is a construction site and caution should be taken in the area. Pickleball courts will remain open throughout construction and can be accessed using the walking path.

While the playground is closed, the closest playground can be found at Floral Park, located at 3105 Floral Drive.
