Northbrook Park District Skating Classes
Toddler (Age 3), Snowplow Sam (Ages 4-5), Basic (Ages 6-12)

  • Intro to Hockey (Ages 4-12)
  • Hockey 1 (Ages 4-7)
  • Mini-Mites (6U) ➔ Jr. Bluehawks
  • Mites (8U) ➔ Jr. Bluehawks
  • Squirts (10U) ➔ Bluehawks
  • Peewees (12U) ➔ Bluehawks
  • Bantams (14U) ➔ Bluehawks
  • Glenbrook North High School Hockey

The Northbrook Sports Center’s Instructional Hockey Program serves children who have little or no hockey experience. Coaches from Northbrook Hockey League (NBHL) and Northbrook Bluehawks provide instruction.

All classes require a helmet with a cage, elbow pads, shin pads, and hockey skates are recommended. New participants receive a Northbrook Bluehawks jersey. Prorated classes are available, but must register in person.

Intro to Hockey

Prerequisite: Toddler 1, Basic 1 or Pre-Alpha 1
Introduce your child to hockey in a fun and safe environment with NBHL/Bluehawks instruction. Classes focus on basic skating skills required for team play.

Hockey 1

Prerequisite: Intro to Hockey
The pre-mite program is for beginning hockey players who have progressed through Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey classes. These skaters are ready to learn and develop more challenging hockey skills. Skaters will begin playing small games and scrimmages. Required equipment: a helmet with a cage, elbow pads, shin pads, gloves and stick.
