Project Completed100% Completion

100% Complete

The Northbrook Park District is making improvements to the pathway connecting Meadowhill Park to Techny Prairie Park and Fields this spring. During the renovation, the pathway is a construction site, a portion of the path will be closed as noted below and access will not be possible between the two parks.

The project is scheduled to begin Monday, April 17 with estimated completion by mid-May. The overall project timeline is subject to change due to supply chain and material delivery as well as weather conditions.

The pathway was originally designed to allow water to drain down from neighboring residential properties over the path and into the adjacent river. Over time, the plant material on the west side of the pathway has matured, obstructing the water’s flow over the path. This has caused further grading issues, especially as the water often contains sediment. The combination of plant growth and sediment buildup causes the pathway to flood and in winter months this can result in frozen patches. As a result, the asphalt pathway has degraded and now requires complete replacement.

This project aims to remove and replace the failing pathway, remove the overgrown plant material, regrade the riverbank, add drainage pipes and replant the riverbank with regionally appropriate native plantings.

With community input, the District completed and adopted a ten-year Comprehensive Master Plan which includes an annual Capital Improvement Plan. Community input conducted with this planning has indicated a priority for maintaining the District’s current assets. This project is one of several repair and replacement projects planned for 2023 as Northbrook Park District continues to enhance our community by providing outstanding services, parks and facilities through environmental, social and financial stewardship.
