With the consideration of safety first, the Village of Northbrook and Northbrook Park District have made the decision to cancel, modify, or postpone many of the traditional Independence Day activities.
The Village and the Park District have made the joint decision to cancel the 4th of July parade due to current COVID-19 guidelines and the nature of the event, which requires planning and coordination months in advance. By the first week of June, the Village and the Park District will make a joint decision regarding whether or not to hold the fireworks on the 4th of July or at a later date.
The Rotary Club of Northbrook is hoping to reschedule the Pancake Breakfast and Rubber Ducky Race this fall. The Park District will be holding the Liberty Loop 5K Race and Liberty Lap Fun Run at Techny Prairie Parks and Fields on Saturday, July 3. Modifications will allow for many runners following state guidelines; more information can be found at

“The 4th of July Parade is truly a big highlight of summer in Northbrook. So, it is a great personal disappointment to me, as well as all of our Northbrook neighbors and friends that for a second year in a row it must be cancelled,” said Northbrook Park District Board President Mary Ann Chambers. “We are happy and look forward to carrying on with the Liberty Loop and Liberty Lap Fun Run on July 3. We will also seek out creative ways to capture the spirit of Independence Day in our community. I’m hopeful the parade will return in 2022 and am already looking forward to seeing families and friends come together to celebrate our country and our community safely and in good health. There will be much to celebrate!”
“While I am disappointed, the safety of our community comes first,” said Northbrook Village President Sandy Frum.
“This year’s celebration of our country’s Independence Day will be in our hearts and with family as we continue to put the health of everyone as the top priority. I eagerly await future community celebrations and look forward to the day when we can all celebrate together.”
