Northbrook Park District is excited to host the annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 14 from 10am-Noon at Lake Shermerville inside Wood Oaks Green Park, 1150 Sanders Road. Grab your fishing rod and join us for this classic outdoor event. Additional poles will be available on a first come, first served basis. Goody bags will be handed out to the first 125 children including coupons for free scoops of custard donated by Culver’s Northbrook and free kids pizzas donated by Lou Malnati’s. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish, smallest fish, and most fish caught. Registration for the event will be available on-site only; fishing licenses are not needed for participants under 16 years old.

This community family event has been offered by Northbrook Park District for over 20 years. Recreation Supervisor Mary Mucci is excited to see more children catch their very first fish! Mucci explained, “This event is the perfect place for families to take their children fishing for the first time. We will provide fishing poles, bait, and have experienced volunteers to help you and your child catch and release fish.”

Volunteers from the Isaak Walton League will once again be on hand to assist participants at the event. The mission of the group is to conserve, restore, and promote the sustainable use and enjoyment of our natural resources, including soil, air, woods, waters, and wildlife.
