Grant Golden, 50s tennis legend, and Geoff Gluck, hall-of-fame tennis coach, at Wood Oaks Green Park.

It was a ‘golden’ afternoon at Wood Oaks Green Park when we happened upon Grant Golden practicing the game that made him famous. Golden was ranked in the U.S. top 10 in singles in 1953, 1956, and 1957, was ranked # 2 in the U.S. in doubles in 1953 and was 2–1 in Davis Cup play in 1957. Geoff and Judy Gluck were playing nearby when Mr. Golden invited them over for an impromtu tennis lesson! Geoff is a tennis professional and former competitor and coach. He was so excited to connect with Grant whom he had met many decades ago when he coached girls’ tennis at Deerfield High School (Inducted into the Illinois High School Tennis Association Hall of Fame 2002). You never know what wonderful connections will be made when you head out to the park!
