A Story in the Park – September 12, 2017

Former Northbrook resident Karen Bersh and daughter, Olivia, had a wonderful playdate with old friends at Indian Ridge Park on Tuesday, September 12. The Bersh Family moved to Marco Island, Florida, two years ago and are back in Northbrook the first time due to Hurricane Irma. Luckily, their house was okay after the storm but the past week has been anything but normal for the family. They packed up their mini-van with all that they could, including their dog, and made their way north like many other Florida residents. They ultimately decided to come back “home” and wait out the storm until it’s safe to return.

Karen was upbeat and positive about her situation saying, “It’s nice to be back and have a sense of normalcy and comfort.” Olivia, who is now in second-grade was busy running around playing on the playground with lifelong friends made when they all attended the Park District’s Sunshine Preschool 2s program. The moms are just as good of friends. They took their kids out of school for the day so they could have a playdate and mini-reunion, giving Olivia a fun day during this stressful time. Karen also mentioned that she was so thankful to everyone that has reached out and been so helpful.

The Park District not only brings people together for leisure and activity but it’s a place where people make lifelong friends with strong bonds. We wish the Bersh Family luck in the coming weeks.
