About 800 people packed into Village Green Park on Saturday, Jan. 16, as the Northbrook Park District hosted a Winter Carnival to celebrate the season. A bonfire with free s'mores and a chili cook-off helped warm up the crowd. Fifteen people brought homemade chili for judging and tasting. Marc Gitlin won the contest with his “Muchacho Marco’s Soon-to-be World Famous Chile Adovada” and received a $50 gift certificate to Cabela’s.
Visitors of all ages enjoyed a dogsled demonstration by Green Valley Dog Drivers and a German Shepherd Search and Rescue demonstration. A metal detector scavenger hunt and snowshoe obstacle course were very popular with the children, who also enjoyed face painting, bingo, a sled decorating contest and carnival games.
