HOLIDAY CLOSINGS
(Ref:# 1004-1) Northbrook Park District classes and programs will not meet on Monday, October 8, due to the Columbus Day holiday. All Park District Registration and Administration offices will be closed as well. Classes will resume and offices will reopen for business on Tuesday, October 9.   ###

ACTION TERRITORY TRIP
(Ref:# 1004-2) Children in grades K-8 can enjoy laser tag, mini-golf, batting cages, water wars and arcade games on a Columbus Day trip to Action Territory in Kenosha, Wisconsin with the Northbrook Park District on October 8. The “School’s Out Fun” trip will begin from the Leisure Center at 9am and return by 3pm. The fee is $40 for Northbrook Park District residents and $45 for nonresidents. Extended care is available before and after the trip for an additional fee. To find out if space is available, call (847) 291-2980. ###

GLITZY GIRLZ: ROCK DIVAS
(Ref:# 1004-3) Girls can discover their inner pop star at a Glitzy Girlz: Glamour Rock Divas program on Friday, October 5 at the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue from 6:30-8:15pm. Glitzy Girlz staff will provide glitter makeovers, beaded hair extensions and nail polish applications to girls age 5-11. The girls will decorate a personalized CD case holder and crystal jewelry piece and will learn to dance the YMCA, Macarena, Cha-Cha Slide, Limbo and Freeze dance. The fee is $34 for Northbrook Park District residents and $39 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. ADULT BASKETBALL DEADLINE
(Ref:# 1004-4) October 5 is the deadline to register for winter basketball leagues for men through the Northbrook Park District. The season will begin October 17 and run through February, consisting of 10 games on Wednesday evenings, followed by playoffs for the top four teams in each division. The 1st and 2nd place finishers and playoff champions will receive awards. No games will be played during the November and December holiday breaks. GBN FEEDER BASKETBALL PRE-TRYOUT CLINIC
(Ref:# 1004-5) The Northbrook Park District will hold Pre-Tryout Clinics for traveling basketball at Glenbrook North High School, 2300 Shermer Road. The clinics for girls will be October 9 and 11 at the following times:

    6th Grade 7-8pm
    7th Grade 8-9pm
    8th Grade 8-9pm

Clinics for boys will be held on October 16 and 18 at the following times:

    6th Grade 7-8pm
    7th Grade 8-9pm
    8th Grade 8-9pm

HALLOWEEN DOLL WORKSHOP
(Ref:# 1004-6) Children can decorate their favorite dolls at an unusual Halloween workshop on Monday, October 22 at the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, from 6:30-7:30pm. The Northbrook Park District is offering a new program called “Kreative Kreations – American Girl Halloween Doll Clothes” for children ages 3-12 to attend with a parent. Each child will design a Halloween blanket, decorate an outfit and create a piece of jewelry for a favorite doll. Participants do not need an American Girl doll to take part in the program; they can bring a doll similar in size. The fee is $34 for Park District residents and $39 for nonresidents. PUMPKIN PATCH
(Ref:# 1004-7) Treats are in store at the Park District’s annual Pumpkin Patch on Wednesday, October 24 at the Northbrook Leisure Center. Children ages 3-10 are invited to the popular Halloween pumpkin-carving event from 5:30-7pm. Each child needs to bring one adult and will receive a pumpkin to carve and/or decorate. The necessary supplies will be provided, and participants will take home a keepsake photo and goodie bag, in addition to their pumpkins. Pizza will be served. The fee is $30 for Northbrook Park District residents and $35 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations, by mail and online at www.nbparks.org. HALLOWEEN LUNCH AND BINGO
(Ref:# 1004-8) Adults and seniors can get into the holiday spirit with a Halloween lunch and bingo at the Northbrook Park District Senior Center on Friday, October 26. Witches and goblins are welcome, and a prize will be awarded for the best costume. The celebration runs from 11:30am-2pm, and the fee is $8 for Senior Center members and $12 for nonmembers. The Senior Center is located at 3323 Walters Avenue. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. For more information, call (847) 291-2988.  ###

HAUNTED HOUSE TICKETS
(Ref:# 1004-9) Tickets go on sale October 1st for frightful fun at two Haunted Houses from the Northbrook Park District. A “Tour of Terror” is transforming the Northbrook Sports Center at 1730 Pfingsten Road, and all children who take the trip will receive a bag of goodies at the end. The Haunted House runs from 6-9pm on October 26,27,30 and 31; the entry fee is $4 in advance or $5 at the door. Special Halloween public ice skating is available each of those nights from 7-9pm. A Halloween Pass that includes the Haunted House, ice skating and skate rental is $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

In addition, a younger children’s version of the Haunted House will run from 4-5pm on the same dates, at a cost of $2 per person. The younger “Tour of Terror” is for children ages 5-8 and contains scary props, scenes and decorations but no live characters. For more information on the Haunted Houses, call (847) 291-2993. KABBALAH 101
(Ref:# 1004-10) A two-part class on Kabbalah, described as a crash course on Jewish mysticism, will begin on November 19 at the Northbrook Park District Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. The class will meet from 10-11:15am on November 19 and 26. The instructor is Rabbi Meir Moscowitz of the Jewish Learning Institute. The fee for both classes is $14 for members of the Senior Center and $20 for nonmembers. For more information, call (847) 291-2988.  ###

ADULT CERAMIC MENORAH WORKSHOP
(Ref:# 1004-11) A three-week ceramic menorah workshop for adults only will begin on Friday, November 2 at the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Participants will start by shaping clay into unique candle holders and then paint and glaze their creations. The workshops will run from 9:30-11:30am, and the cost is $30 for Northbrook Park District residents and $35 for nonresidents. TURKEY SHOOT DEADLINE
(Ref:# 1004-12) October 31 is the deadline to enter the popular Turkey Shoot golf tournament on November 3 at Sportsman’s Country Club, 3535 Dundee Road. The “shotgun” event is a four-person scramble with handicaps, beginning at 9am. Each team’s handicap is based on a percentage of the team’s total. All players are expected to have a verifiable USGA handicap in order to participate in the tournament, which includes lunch, the use of a golf car and valuable prizes. NEW HOURS FOR PRACTICE RANGE
(Ref:# 1004-14) The Practice Range at Sportsman’s Country Club has new hours for the fall, welcoming golfers who want to get an early start and those who want to work on their game late at night. The hours are:

    Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 8am-10:30pm
    Wednesdays     8am-10pm
    Saturdays and Sundays    7am-10:30pm

The practice range has 36 lighted stalls. Range buckets and mini-golf are discounted for pool and tennis card holders. In late fall, the range will be open limited hours, depending on the weather. For times, call (847) 291-2351, extension 2. ###
