BOARD MEETING OCTOBER 24 (Ref:# 1018-1) The Northbrook Park District Board of Commissioners will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 24 at 7pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. The public is welcome to attend. Agendas for the monthly meetings are posted online at www.nbparks.org in the Board meeting section. ###

BABYSITTING CERTIFICATION
(Ref:# 1018-3) Certified Red Cross instructors will teach the proper techniques for babysitting in two Saturday classes at the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, on October 20 and 27. Students can learn about emergency and non-emergency situations, basic first aid and taking care of infants. The classes are open to girls and boys age 11 or older and will meet from 1-5:30pm. Students must attend both classes to receive certification. The fee for both classes is $85 for Northbrook Park District residents and $90 for nonresidents. HALLOWEEN DOLL WORKSHOP
(Ref:# 1018-4) Children can decorate their favorite dolls at a unique Halloween workshop on Monday, October 22 at the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, from 6:30-7:30pm. The Northbrook Park District is offering a new class called “Kreative Kreations – American Girl Halloween Doll Clothes” for ages 3-12 to attend with a parent. Each child will design a Halloween blanket, decorate an outfit and create a piece of jewelry for a favorite doll. Participants do not need an American Girl doll to take part in the program; they can bring a doll similar in size. The fee is $34 for Park District residents and $39 for nonresidents. PUMPKIN PATCH
(Ref:# 1018-5) The Park District’s Pumpkin Patch is moving to a larger space, to accommodate all the children who want to take part in the holiday event. Children ages 3-10 are invited to the annual Halloween pumpkin-carving event on Wednesday, October 24 from 5:30-7pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Each child needs to bring one adult and will receive a pumpkin to carve and/or decorate. The necessary supplies will be provided, and participants will take home a keepsake photo and goodie bag, in addition to the pumpkin. Pizza will be served. The fee is $30 for Northbrook Park District residents and $35 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations, by mail and online at www.nbparks.org. HALLOWEEN LUNCH AND BINGO
(Ref:# 1018-6) October 22 is the deadline to register for a Halloween Lunch and Bingo at the Senior Center on Friday, October 26. Witches and goblins are welcome, and a prize will be awarded for the best costume. The celebration runs from 11:30am-2pm; the fee is $8 for Senior Center members and $12 for nonmembers. The Senior Center is located at 3323 Walters Avenue. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. For more information, call (847) 291-2988.  ###

HAUNTED HOUSES
(Ref:# 1018-7) Tickets are on sale for frightful fun at two Haunted Houses at the Northbrook Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road. All children who take the “Tour of Terror” will receive a bag of goodies at the end. The Haunted Houses are open from 6-9pm on October 26,27,30 and 31; the entry fee is $4 in advance or $5 at the door. A younger children’s version will run from 4-5pm on the same dates, at a cost of $2 per person. The younger “Tour of Terror” is for children ages 5-8 and contains scary props, scenes and decorations but no live characters.

Special Halloween public ice skating is available each of those nights from 7-9pm. A Halloween Pass that includes the Haunted House, ice skating and skate rental is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. HOLIDAY BAZAAR
(Ref:# 1018-8) On November 8 and 9, the Northbrook Park District Senior Center will offer an annual holiday bazaar of handmade craft items, jewelry, clothing and gifts. The bazaar will run from 9am-5pm on November 8 and 9am-3pm on November 9 at the Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Vendors can rent an eight-foot table for both days for $22 or two tables for $40. BASKETBALL TRYOUTS
(Ref:# 1018-9) The Northbrook Park District will hold tryouts for traveling basketball at Glenbrook North High School during the following times: October 22 and 24: Boys, grades 6-8, 8-9pm and October 23 and 25: Girls, grades 6-8, 7-8pm. Students must be Northbrook Park District residents to try out for the teams and must register in advance at any customer service office or online at www.nbparks.org. BARBARA RINELLA TICKETS
(Ref:# 1018-11) Tickets are on sale for an entertaining book dramatization with Barbara Rinella on November 13 at Mission Hills Country Club in Northbrook. The doors will open at 11am, and lunch will be served at 11:45, followed by the presentation of the book The Boleyn Inheritance. The event also includes raffles and door prizes. The fee is $20 for Northbrook Park District Senior Center members and $30 for non-members. The fee includes lunch and the presentation. RESIDENT DISCOUNT GOLF CARDS
(Ref:# 1018-12) Resident discount card renewal is underway for the 2008 golf season at Sportsman’s Country Club. The Northbrook Park District requires the card in order for residents to receive a discount. An early fee of $25 is available until February 28, and the card will be $50 after that date. Discount cards, available for residents 12 years and older, provide reduced fees at Sportsman’s and the Anetsberger Golf Course and advance tee time reservations. The cards can be purchased at the golf shop, and a valid photo ID and current utility bill are required to prove residency. For more information, call (847) 291-2351, extension 3.  ###

MINI SPORTS - SOCCER
(Ref:# 1018-13) Young children can learn the sport of soccer in a Mini-Sports program that begins on October 30 at the Northbrook Park District Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Children must be in kindergarten or first grade to participate. Classes will meet on Tuesday afternoons; the fee for six classes is $80 for Northbrook Park District residents and $100 for nonresidents.
