IMPORTANT CAMP DATES
(Ref:# 0531-1) Summer camp is just around the corner, and Parent Orientation sessions will be held on June 6, to allow parents to meet some of the camp staff, hear their plans and ask questions. June 6 also is the deadline for friendship requests for camp programs. The registration deadline for General Camps, Session 1 is June 8. The Northbrook Park District offers a wide assortment of new and returning camps this summer, beginning with June Mini Camps and lasting through Awesome August, a one-week camp extension that ends August 17. For more information, check the 2007 Camps, Workshops and Clinics Guide, visit
www.nbparks.org or call (847) 291-2980.  ###

SINGING COMPETITION SEMIFINALISTS
(Ref:# 0522-1) Eight semifinalists have been chosen in the contest to find the best singer in Northbrook – four females and four males, ranging in age from 14 to 43. The contestants auditioned before a panel of judges for a chance to sing on stage at a Park Fest concert. The eight singers who will advance to the next level are Dan Ermel, Paul Yost, Erika Turner, Shannon Nebolsky, Melanie Vitaterna, Cara McKay, Carl Moss and Michael Hall. “We are really excited about the variety of vocal talent that will be featured this year,” says Tony Korzyniewski, Recreation Program Manager for the Northbrook Park District.

On June 19, Dan, Paul, Erika and Shannon will be first to perform in the park, beginning at 6:30pm. Each contestant will sing before the Park Fest concert in the gazebo at the Village Green. The other four contestants - Melanie, Cara, Carl and Michael - will compete on June 26, also at 6:30pm at the Village Green. The winners from those two nights will advance to the finals before Park Fest on July 3. And, the new champion will be invited to ride in the July 4th parade, to sing the national anthem at the July 4th fireworks celebration and to sing at Northbrook Days.

For the second year in a row, the singing competition will provide an opportunity for residents to share their love of singing. The goal of the competition is to give singers experience performing in a low-key atmosphere before a live audience, to help them learn how to improve their voices and to add to the Park Fest experience. Before their Park Fest performances, the semifinalists will receive coaching and suggestions from the vocal coordinator of the singing competition.

The Northbrook Park District is hosting the singing competition in partnership with Barbara Byrne and Kati Spaniak of Prudential Preferred Properties, the sponsors of Park Fest. Village Green is located at the corner of Shermer and Meadow in downtown Northbrook. For more information or a complete schedule of Park Fest concerts, you can visit www.nbparks.org or www.iLoveNorthbrook.com. # # #

The renovation project consisted of regrassing and regrading all the greens, rebuilding and relocating bunkers and changing the fairway contours. Sportsman’s hired the award-winning architectural firm Jacobson Golf Course Design, Inc. to rebuild the course, return it to its classic style and ensure its compatibility with today’s game. The new course will be more fun for the average player and more challenging for the better players and have more consistent conditioning throughout. The 75th Anniversary Celebration and Grand Re-Opening will include lunch under a tent, a shotgun tournament and contests and prizes, including awards for those best dressed like golfers from the 1930s. Sportsman’s facilities also include a separate nine-hole course, a lighted driving range, a miniature golf course, four putting greens, a golf shop and a clubhouse dining room serving breakfast and lunch.
