FUNNY STUFF
(Ref:# 0503-1) Get ready to giggle, guffaw or chuckle, with the help of a new class from the Northbrook Park District on May 10 from 12:30-3pm. Instructor Om Johari will guide a group of adults in laughter, with a 15-minute break during the session. The class will be held at the Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, and the fee is $10 for members and $20 for non-members. Laughter can be serious – the benefits include strengthening the immune system, improving blood flow and relaxing muscles. For more information, call the Senior Center at (847) 291-2988. ###

THANKING VOLUNTEERS
(Ref:# 0503-2) The Senior Center will thank its volunteers with lunch and a recognition ceremony on Friday, May 18. Singer and guitarist Dan Sabados will provide entertainment for the event. Everyone is invited to attend the annual luncheon to acknowledge volunteers who help with senior programming. The event begins at 11:30am at the Senior Center, 3323 Walters Ave. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Call (847) 291-2988 to register. ###

ANIMAL ACTION
(Ref:# 0503-3) On Friday, May 4, children can become the parents of adorable animals with a new program from the Northbrook Park District, called “Mom and Me and Our New Furry Friend.” With the help of staff from Glitzy Girlz, participants will choose a soft animal and decorate it with accessories, also receiving a birth certificate, t-shirt, blanket and basket cradle. The program will run from 6:30 to 7:45pm at the Leisure Center and is designed for girls and boys age 4-10 with a parent. Each couple can enjoy an ice cream sundae buffet to celebrate the adventure. The fee is $34 for residents and $39 for non-residents. Additional children can attend for a fee of $23. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org.  ###

TEDDY BEARS AND TEA
(Ref:# 0503-4) Enjoy cozy ambience and create special memories with a Little Miss Tea Party on May 5, from 1-2pm at the Northbrook Park District Leisure Center. Finger sandwiches and dessert will be served, along with tea and juice and a serving of entertainment on the side. Girls are encouraged to dress up and bring a favorite doll or teddy bear, along with their moms or a special friend. The fee for a girl and parent is $35 for residents and $40 for non-residents. Additional daughters can attend for a fee of $15. Registration is accepted at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org.   ###

TEAMS CHALLENGE COURSE
(Ref:# 0503-5) Are you ready for a challenge? Can you handle the Incomplete Bridge, Squeeze Box or Nitro’s Crossing? Corporate groups, school groups and community organizations can sign up for the Northbrook Park District's Teams Challenge Course, a series of outdoor activities, trust initiatives and team-building adventures in Meadowhill Park. Guided by trained facilitators, participants can develop leadership and problem-solving skills and learn about cooperation and communication by sharing ideas and overcoming obstacles. The facilitators customize each program to meet the specific needs of the group and also can bring a challenge program to a different location. VELODROME OPENING
(Ref:# 0503-6) On your mark, get set – for the season opening of cycle races at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome on Thursday, May 17. The Northbrook Cycle Committee and the Northbrook Park District invite the public to attend Thursday night races at the Velodrome to watch cyclists compete, reaching speeds of up to 40 miles an hour around the banked bike track. One of only a few official quarter-mile bike tracks in the country, the Velodrome attracts top cyclists from the Midwest to weekly races and also offers training sessions, special events and Friday bike races for all ages. Thursday night races begin at 7pm, and the spectator fee is $2 for ages 12 and up. Children under 12 are admitted free.

EUROPEAN DREAM CRUISE
(Ref:# 0503-7) The Northbrook Park District Senior Center is accepting registration for “The Dream Cruise from Budapest to Düsseldorf,” a unique opportunity scheduled for October 12-22. The cruise will offer dramatic views of Gothic cathedrals, magnificent castles and historic villages, as well as some of Europe’s most beautiful capitals and architectural masterpieces. The journey through the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers will experience four countries – Slovakia, Germany, Austria and Hungary. This Grand Cruise is designed to allow maximum relaxation while traveling across Central Europe. For more information, call Margie at (847) 291-2988. ###

SPRING SKATING DEADLINE
(Ref:# 0503-8) May 5 is the early fee registration deadline for Spring Ice Skating classes at the Sports Center. The spring session of classes begins on May 15 and will run for three weeks. An updated schedule of classes is posted at the Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road. In order to register, skaters must present a placement slip, signed by an instructor, unless they are enrolling in an introductory-level class. May 5 is also the early fee deadline for registration for Little Blues hockey classes. For enrollment information, call (847) 291-2993. ###

ANGLING FOR FISHERMEN
(Ref:# 0503-9) Do you enjoy fishing? Would you like to share the fun with children who are learning to fish? Saturday, May 19th is the annual Kids Fishing Derby at Lake Shermerville in Wood Oaks Green, from noon until 2pm. The Park District will provide fishing rods and bait, but volunteers are needed to help measure the fish and return the catch to the lake. If you are interested in helping at the derby, call Julie Hansen at (847) 291-2995, extension 125. ###
