NORTHBROOK-ON-ICE
(Ref:# 0501-10) Almost 400 skaters will perform in the annual Northbrook-On-Ice show during four performances on May 9-11 at the Northbrook Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road. In addition to elaborate productions, imaginative costumes and sophisticated lighting, this year’s show, “Hollywood Skate of Fame,” will feature musical favorites from movies, Broadway shows and popular recording artists. The music includes songs from “High School Musical,” “The Lion King,” and “Hairspray” as well as hits from Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera, U2 and Bon Jovi.

Supervising the shows are two young women who used to perform in Northbrook-On-Ice: skating school coordinators Heather Aseltine, the director, and Vicky Klinko, assistant director. They’ve been working on the structure of the show since June of last year. Total hours of rehearsal time: approximately 275. Number of costumes ordered: between 500 and 600. Number of acts in the show: 45. Number of volunteers expected to help during the performances: more than 100.

Once again, the highly acclaimed Icettes and Junior Icettes will combine to present 44 skaters on the ice in a precise demonstration of skill. The Northbrook Dancettes, a Dance-On-Ice team, will offer an energetic routine. And the Teams Elite synchronized skaters, who just became national champions in the Junior Youth division, will perform their program. Another highlight: 16 boys and girls from the “Special Persons Ice Skating Experience,” known as SPICE, will participate in the show with helpers.

Included in this year’s cast are 3-year-old beginners as well as more than 50 upper level skaters. Heather and Vicki will join skaters on the ice for a memorial tribute to Jerry Mulsoff, the former maintenance supervisor at the Sports Center who designed and built the sets for the ice show for at least 20 years. Performances of Northbrook-On-Ice are scheduled for Friday, May 9 at 7:30pm, Saturday, May 10 at 2 and 7:30pm and Sunday, May 11 at 2pm. Tickets are on sale at the Sports Center for $8 and $8.50, depending on seating. For more information, call (847) 291-2993.
