CAMP DEADLINES
(Ref:# 0510-1) May 18 is the deadline to request a refund for Session 1 Summer Camp programs, if your plans have changed. The Northbrook Park District offers a wide assortment of new and returning camps this summer, beginning with June Mini Camps and lasting through Awesome August, a one-week camp extension that ends August 17. Parent Camp Orientation sessions will be held on June 6, to provide a forum for questions and to allow parents to meet some of the camp staff. June 6 also is the deadline for friendship requests for camp programs. The registration deadline for Session 1 General Camps is June 8. PARK FEST 2007
(Ref:# 0510-2) Get your picnic blankets ready and find the lawn chairs. Park Fest, the popular outdoor concert series, will kick off on June 5 at the Village Green, with rock and roll hits performed by “The Class of ’68.” Returning to the concert series this summer is the iLoveNorthbrook Singing Competition, a friendly contest to find the best amateur singer in Northbrook. The winner will ride in the July 4th parade, sing the national anthem at the July 4th fireworks celebration and sing at Northbrook Days.

The musical lineup for Park Fest 2007 includes Shirley King, Country Sky Band, White Saddle Band, Spoken Four, Grand Avenue Big Band, Mr. Myers and Bopology. Park Fest concerts begin at 7:30pm, and the singing competition will begin at 6:30pm on June 19, June 26 and July 3. Food service from area restaurants also will begin at 6:30pm on concert evenings. Park Fest and the Singing Competition are sponsored by Barbara Byrne and Kati Spaniak of Prudential Preferred Properties in partnership with the Northbrook Park District. TREASURES, TRINKETS AND TRASH
(Ref:# 0510-3) On June 8 and 9, the Northbrook Park District Senior Center will offer Treasures, Trinkets and Trash, a yearly sale at the Leisure Center. Rent a table, sell your unwanted goods and keep the profits, or just come to buy other treasures. An eight-foot table costs $22, and two tables can be rented for $40. The hours on Friday are 9am-5pm, and Sunday hours are 9am-2pm. There will be a separate place for crafters, and lunch will be available both days. The deadline to rent tables is June 1. KIDS FLEA MARKET
(Ref:# 0510-4) The Kids Only Flea Market will open for business on Saturday, June 23, immediately following Kids Fest in Village Green. Young entrepreneurs can get ready by going through their old games, toys, books and collectibles and deciding what to sell. The kids will be the bosses, running their own booths. The registration deadline is June 9, and the young businessmen and businesswomen must be in grades 1-7. The sellers will be charged $5 for a table. Bicycles, clothing and large items are not allowed in the marketplace, and all items must be in good condition. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. The Northbrook Arts Commission will have tie-dying available at the event. ###

BOOK DRAMATIST BARBARA RINELLA
(Ref:# 0510-5) There’s still time to sign up for a special event that will leave everyone laughing: On June 1, book dramatist Barbara Rinella presents “I FEEL BAD ABOUT MY NECK And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman” at Chevy Chase Country Club. The book, written by Nora Ephron, offers a frank, funny and moving look at women getting older and dealing with the ups and downs of daily life. The Northbrook Senior Center has arranged for the presentation and lunch, for a fee of $29 for members and $39 for non-members. People can reserve a table of eight or sign up individually. The doors will open at 10am at the club, located at 1000 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling. To get more information or reserve a table, call (847) 291-2988.  ###

CYCLE RACES BEGIN
(Ref:# 0510-6) On Thursday, May 17, cycle races begin at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook. The Northbrook Cycle Committee and the Northbrook Park District invite the public to attend Thursday night races at the Velodrome to watch cyclists compete, reaching speeds of up to 40 miles an hour around the banked bike track. One of only a few official quarter-mile bike tracks in the country, the Velodrome attracts top cyclists from the Midwest to weekly races and also offers training sessions, special events and Friday bike races for all ages. Thursday night races begin at 7pm, and the spectator fee is $2 for ages 12 and up. Children under 12 are admitted free. PRESEASON POOL HOURS
(Ref:# 0510-7) Get ready to splash into summer fun with preseason pool hours at the Sports Center Pool. The hours for Public Swim and Lap Swim are as follows:

    Saturday, May 26 – Monday, May 28, Noon-8pm

    Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3, Noon-8pm

    Monday, June 4 – Friday, June 8, 4-8pm

Summer season pool hours will begin on June 9 at the Sports Center Pool and Meadowhill Aquatic Center. The Park District is adding special hours at the Village Green Registration Office to purchase pool and tennis memberships. Individuals and families can purchase season memberships on Saturday mornings from May 19 through June 23 and on Wednesday evenings from May 23 through June 13. Y’ALL COME CHOIR
(Ref:# 0510-8) On May 14, the "Y'All Come" Choir will sing at Covenant Village, 2625 Techny Road in Northbrook. The program, which begins at 7pm, will consist of a variety of music, including jazz from the 1940's. The choir was founded 18 years ago by Sue Young, who teaches choral methods at Northwestern University and taught music at Northbrook Junior High School for many years. The "Y'All Come" Choir also will perform at the annual Fourth of July celebration at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome from 8:30 until 9pm. The public is invited to attend all performances by the choir, which is affiliated with the Northbrook Park District. For further information, contact Sue Young at (847) 291-2960, extension 165. ###

MAGIC ON ICE
(Ref:# 0510-9) More than 400 skaters will take part in this year’s production of Northbrook-On-Ice, “Abracadabra-Axel-Alacazam!” on May 11-13. The annual show by skating students at the Northbrook Sports Center will focus on magic and illusions, such as flying and invisibility. For the first time, the talented Icettes and Junior Icettes will perform a combined number; almost 50 students will skate to a medley of Beatles songs. The newly formed Northbrook Dancettes also will perform an energetic dance routine. The highly-regarded ice show features special effects, beautiful costumes, music and imaginative props. Performances are scheduled for May 11 at 7:30pm, May 12 at 2pm and 7:30pm and May 13 at 2pm at the Sports Center, 1730 Pfinsgten Road. Call (847) 291-2993 for tickets or more information.
