SPRING BUNNY TRAIL (Ref:# 0329-1) Hop on over to the Village Green for the Northbrook Park District’s Spring Bunny Trail on Saturday, March 31 from 10am-12:30pm. Children can search for candy, play games, win prizes and meet the Spring Bunny. From 10:30-11:30am, children can pose for photographs with the Spring Bunny. The egg hunt begins promptly at noon for children ages 3-4, and children 5-7 will follow them. A magician also will perform at the event, which is free for Northbrook residents. ###
MAGIC CLASS: BECOME A JUNIOR MAGICIAN (Ref:# 0329-2) Children ages 5-12 can learn fascinating tricks from a professional magician, when the Northbrook Park District begins four weeks of magic classes on April 4. The tricks involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading and more. All materials will be provided, and each child will receive a magic kit to take home. Children will be grouped by age in the classes and taught age-appropriate tricks. Gary Kantor is the instructor, teaching new tricks every session, so children can sign up even if they have taken previous classes. The classes will meet from 4:30-5:30pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. The fee for four classes is $60 for residents and $65 for non-residents. NORTHBROOK-ON-ICE TICKETS (Ref:# 0329-3) Tickets will go on sale April 2 for “Abracadabra Axel Alacazam,” this year’s Northbrook-On-Ice show. More than 400 ice skaters will perform in the annual show on May 11-13 at the Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road. Friday’s performance is at 7:30pm; Saturday shows are at 2 and 7:30pm and Sunday’s show is at 2pm. This year’s show focuses on magic and illusions and features advanced skaters as well as beginning students. Lively music, special effects and beautiful costumes and props set the stage for the skating show. Tickets are priced at $8 and $8.50. For ticket information, call (847) 291-2993. ###
SUDOKU STRATEGY APRIL 4 (Ref:# 0329-4) Still puzzled by Sudoku? You can learn to solve the Japanese-designed number puzzles in a class from the Northbrook Park District Senior Center on April 4. Instructor Om Johari will teach a few simple techniques to solve all but the hardest puzzles; no math or guesswork is required. Observation and logic are the keys to solving the puzzles, which can help sharpen the mind and relieve stress. The class will be held from 2-2:45pm at the Senior Center; the fee is $7 for members and $12 for non-members. The instructor will continue with coaching classes for anyone who wants more than one lesson. Registration is available at all customer service locations. NEW SENIOR TRIP: BODY WORLDS 2 (Ref:# 0329-5) On April 18, the Northbrook Senior Center will take a group to the Museum of Science and Industry to explore the mysteries of the human body through Body Worlds 2. The new exhibit, a sequel to the mesmerizing and popular Body Worlds, contains fascinating whole-body plastinates, human specimens preserved through a technique that replaces bodily fluids and fat with plastics. The trip includes transportation, admission to the museum and an Omnimax film at a cost of $57 for Senior Center members and $67 for non-members. PERMANENT TEE TIMES (Ref:# 0329-6) Permanent tee times begin on April 14 at Sportsman’s Country Club and are a great way to ensure a weekly dose of golf and recreation. Tee times also are available online at www.sportsmansgolf.com. Saturday tee times are available as early as 10:18am, and Sundays are open at 8:57am or even 5:30am for early birds. The Classic 18-hole par 70 course is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year after a major facelift. All the greens have been stripped, re-contoured and seeded with high-quality Penn A-4 Bent grass. NEW: INTRO TO ENGINEERING (Ages 4-6) (Ref:# 0329-7) Young students can learn about pulleys, gears and wheels and axles in a new class from the Northbrook Park District, beginning on April 5. Children will use Lego Dacta Early Simple Machines to develop their creative and problem-solving skills, with the help of Computertots instructors. The students will build and manipulate vehicles, hand-operated lifts and a merry-go-round with this comprehensive physical science set. Classes are on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30pm at the Leisure Center. The fee for 8 classes is $155 for residents and $160 for non-residents. LACROSSE FOR GIRLS: SKILLS DAYS (Ref:# 0329-10) April 3 is the first day of a lacrosse skills camp for girls from the Northbrook Park District. Girls in 4th through 8th grades can learn to play lacrosse, brush up on their skills or get ready for league play. The sessions are scheduled for April 3 and 4 for 4th and 5th graders and April 11 and 12 for 6th -8th graders, from 5 to 6pm at Wood Oaks Park, 1150 Sanders Road. Girls will learn the rules of the game and work on basic skills before progressing to offensive and defensive positioning and simulated game play. A lacrosse league for girls will begin in Northbrook on April 16, with separate levels for beginners and experienced players. TENNIS SEASON STARTING
(Ref:# 0329-11) The Park District tennis courts will be available for use beginning on April 3. There are 24 outdoor courts at the following locations:
*Wood Oaks, 1150 Sanders Road: eight hard courts, two clay courts operate on a reservation system (847) 291-2992.
*West Park/Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road: three asphalt courts operate on a rack-up system.
*Crestwood Park, 1700 Milton Avenue: four asphalt courts, rack-up.
*Williamsburg Square Park, 200 Lee Road, three asphalt courts, rack-up.
*Oaklane Park, 636 Berglund Place: two asphalt courts, rack-up.
*Stonegate Park, 3425 Whirlaway: two courts, rack-up system.
