SAFETY PROGRAM
(Ref:# 0327-2) On April 2, seniors can learn how to protect themselves from scams and fraud at a class called Be Safe, offered by the Northbrook Park District Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, from 1:30-3pm. NEW PROGRAMS FOR PRESCHOOLERS
(Ref:# 0327-3) Three new summer programs for preschoolers are accepting registration. Kiddie Combo Camp will offer a mix of music, sports, drawing and science on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:15-11:30am. On Fridays, Sports Plus will teach basic sports skills and enhance physical development from 11:30am-12:30pm, before or after Kids Korner Camp. And on Thursday mornings, Kindermusik Our Timewill offer music, stories, crafts and movement with a traveling zoo train theme, for young children to attend with a parent from 9-9:50am. CAFÉ AMIGOS
(Ref:# 0327-4) On April 4, Café Amigos will open for business, serving Spanish lessons to preschoolers from 11:30am-12:45pm on Fridays during lunch at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Children ages 3 ˝-5 will bring a lunch and enjoy a taste of Spanish, along with songs, games and art. The fee for the new eight-week program is $156 for Northbrook Park District residents and $195 for nonresidents. Parents can register at any customer service location or online at www.nbparks.org. FLY CASTING CLASSES
(Ref:# 0327-5) Teenagers and adults can learn the sport of fly casting, beginning on Wednesday, May 7 at the Northbrook Park District Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Classes are limited to eight students and will meet from 4:30-6pm; the instructor will have limited rental equipment available on request. The fee for five classes is $110 for Northbrook Park District residents and $120 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. An intermediate class will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30-8pm; students need permission from the instructor to enroll. For more information, call (847) 291-2980.  ###

PARK FEST 2008 
(Ref:# 0327-6) The sounds of swing, rock and roll, blues, country, calypso, pop and reggae will fill the Northbrook Village Green this summer, with the return of Park Fest, the popular outdoor concert series. The Northbrook Park District is pleased to announce the lineup of music and food for Park Fest 2008:

Returning to the concert series this summer is the iLoveNorthbrook Singing Competition, a friendly contest to find the best amateur singer in Northbrook. Park Fest concerts begin at 7:30pm, and the singing competition will take place before the concerts on June 17, June 24 and July 1. Food service from area restaurants will begin at 6:30pm on concert evenings. The sponsors of the singing competition and Park Fest on June 17, June 24 and July 1 are Barbara Byrne and Kati Spaniak of Prudential Preferred Properties. GPS ADVENTURES 
(Ref:# 0327-7) Beginning on April 2, Adventures with GPS Receivers will teach children basic orienteering and introduce them to Geo-Caching, an outdoor adventure hobby that uses Global Positioning Satellite devices. Students will set out on a “geo-safari” and be able to blog about their adventures that begin at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Designed for ages 8 and up, the program will run from 4-5pm on Wednesdays. The fee for six classes is $129 for residents and $161 for non-residents. KINDER KAMPUS REGISTRATION
(Ref:# 0327-8) On April 4, open registration begins at 9am for Kinder Kampus, an enrichment program for kindergarten students in School Districts #27 and #30. During the 2008-2009 school year, children will be able to attend 2, 3 or 5 days per week. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents do not need to choose between the morning and afternoon programs; the Park District will work with the schools to determine placement. For more information, call (847) 291-2980. ###

CLOCK-MAKING WORKSHOP
(Ref:# 0327-9) Children can create their own clocks during a new workshop on Sunday, April 13 from 1-3pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Children ages 6-12 must attend with a parent and will create and paint a clock as a team. The finished project will be fired and ready to be picked up on Monday, May 5. Class size is limited. The fee is $40 for Northbrook Park District residents and $50 for nonresidents.

GIRLS LACROSSE
(Ref:# 0327-10) A lacrosse league just for girls will begin on April 14 at Wood Oaks Green, 1150 Sanders Road. Practices will be on Mondays from 6-7:30pm, and games will be played on Saturday mornings. The league will contain three levels: grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. The fee for seven weeks is $155 for Northbrook Park District residents and $195 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. FUN WITH AMIGOS
(Ref:# 0327-11) Preschoolers can learn Spanish on Fridays at Fun with Amigos, a new class beginning on April 4 at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Children ages 4-6 will play, sing, paint, cook and create while learning Spanish. Classes are offered from 9:45-11:15am and from 1-2:30pm. The fee for eight classes is $156 for Northbrook Park District residents and $195 for nonresidents. Parents can register at any customer service location or online at www.nbparks.org. BARBARA RINELLA TO PERFORM
(Ref:# 0327-12) Tickets are on sale for a May 23 performance by book dramatist Barbara Rinella at the Chevy Chase Country Club, 1000 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling. The former high school English teacher will present the book Teacher Man, a memoir from Pulitzer-Prize winning author Frank McCourt about his 30-year teaching career in public high schools in New York. The fee for the presentation and lunch is $32 for Northbrook Park District Senior Center members and $42 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30am. To reserve a place, call (847) 291-2988. ###

TRY TO REMEMBER
(Ref:# 0327-13) A new class called Reminisce will begin on April 9 at 1:30pm at the Northbrook Park District Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Social worker Trish Abby will lead the class, and participants are invited to bring ideas and pictures. The fee for four weeks is $3 for Senior Center members and $4 for nonmembers. WATERCOLOR CLASSES
(Ref:# 0327-14) Adults can learn to create watercolor paintings in a series of Friday morning classes beginning April 11 at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Beginning and intermediate artists are welcome and will examine works by master watercolorists each week. Students will receive individualized attention and studio time during the classes, from 9am to Noon. The fee for seven classes is $154 for Northbrook Park District residents and $159 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. BRING A BUDDY
(Ref:# 0327-15) March 31 through April 5 is designated as “Bring-A-Buddy Week” at the Northbrook Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road. During that time, a skater can bring a friend free of charge to a skating class and let the friend see what skating is all about. The participating levels are Toddler 1, Basic 1 and Pre-Alpha 1. The Refer-A-Friend program will run in conjunction with the new buddy program, and a skater can receive 25% off the next session’s class payment by getting a friend to join the skating program. The friend must be new to the program and must register at the same time in order for a discount to be issued. For more information, call (847) 291-2993.  ###
