(Ref:# 0322-1) Catch an hour of fun and prizes with professional bass fisherman Jim Hendee on March 28. He'll share his experiences and answer questions about luring and landing the largest fish, in a Northbrook Park District program from 7-8pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Students are admitted free to the event, which is recommended for ages 10 to adult. The fee for adults is $3 for Northbrook Park District residents and $5 for non-residents. NEW JUNIOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
(Ref:# 0322-2) Students in grades 8 to 10 are invited to apply for the new Junior Leadership Program, a summer program from the Northbrook Park District, designed to introduce teens to leadership training and practical work experience. The four-week program will allow participants to assist in a variety of Park District settings, including summer camps. The teens also might help at the pools or golf courses, based on their interests. Two days each week the teens will focus on job skills and team-building exercises to increase their self-confidence. They will work not only with fellow Junior Leaders and children but also with Northrbook Park District staff members. Because the program can accommodate only a limited number of participants, they will be selected on the basis of applications, adult references and interviews. Interested students can obtain an application at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, or online at nbparks.org. Students chosen for the program will need to pay a minimal fee of $100 per four-week placement, to help defray the costs of training, field trips and supplies. The leadership training is offered in two sessions, and the deadline for applications is May 1. For more information, please call the Leisure Center at (847) 291-2995.  ###

The spring hours of operation are as follows: 4-10pm Monday-Friday and noon-10pm on weekends. Beginning on June 16, the summer hours of operation will be: noon-10pm Monday-Friday and 10am-10pm on weekends. Six batting cages are available, and players can choose to swing at baseballs or 12" softballs, for a fee of $1 for 12 pitches. New this year, the batting cages can be rented for parties, and the Northbrook Park District will provide food for the guests. Groups and teams also can reserve the cages in 30-minute intervals. For more information or to reserve the cages, call (847) 291-2369.   ###

NEW JUNIOR GOLF PROGRAM
(Ref:# 0322-4) Sportsman’s Country Club and the Northbrook Golf Academy are launching a new Junior Golf Development Program in April, to combine the fun of golf with a focus on skills development for boys and girls ages 8-16. The program begins with a series of five one-hour sessions, in which students will learn the rules of the game, etiquette and safety, as well as the basic skills of the short game and full swing. After they’ve completed Phase 1, students can participate in weekly Junior Golf League events, which begin in June, and can continue with more advanced instruction. Junior League members will be able to play for prizes with different types of competition.

The new golf program replaces the traditional golf camps to concentrate on skills and individual performance progressions. Students will need to pass a test before they can advance to each level of instruction. Children who already have taken lessons with the Northbrook Golf Academy or other academies may test out of Phase 1. The first class meets at Sportsman’s Driving Range, and class dates and times are listed in the Spring/Summer Recreation Guide. For more information, call the Anetsberger Golf Course at (847) 291-2971.   ###
