The choices include half days and full days, three or five days per week and extended care before and after camp. Campers also can extend the summer with Awesome August, a one-week camp program that ends August 17. THE FINEST AND THE FASTEST (Ref:# 0705-2) Police and firefighters in the Chicago area are gearing up for a bicycle challenge in Northbrook on Friday, August 3. The public safety officers will compete to find the fastest uniform on two wheels. The competition takes place at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome, a quarter-mile outdoor track at Meadowhill Park. Racing begins at 7pm, and three races will be held – a scratch race, an unknown distance race and a “cops & robbers” pursuit. The officers must race the same bike that they use to patrol their towns, and they are asked to race in their uniforms. Everyone is invited to show support for the police and firefighters, while enjoying fast-paced racing around an authentic banked track. The Velodrome is located at Waukegan Road and Maple Avenue, just east of downtown Northbrook. In the event of rain, the bike challenge will be moved to Friday, August 10. For more information, visit www.northbrookbicycleclub.org or email rideref@hotmail.com. ###
