The classes are appropriate for children who want to learn figure skating or hockey skills. Classes will be held from 1-1:30pm and 1:45-2:15pm, and children will be grouped by age. In Kindermusik classes, teachers lead a group of parents and their children through joyful activities, using music and movement. In Kindermusik Village, parents and very young children (newborn to 18 months) will gently dance, explore objects, sing and move to stimulate the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of the children. Kindermusik Our Time, designed for children 18 months to 3 ½ years, will address the whole child through singing, moving and playing simple instruments. Books and CDs are included, allowing the activities to continue at home. CHAIR NIA
(Ref:# 0726-8) Adults of all fitness levels are invited to pull up a chair, sit down and exercise in a new class from the Northbrook Park District that begins on September 7. The class, called Chair Nia, will adapt dance-like routines for those who want a fun and expressive workout while seated. Nia is a unique form of fusion fitness that combines movements and concepts from martial arts, dance traditions and balance work. No movement experience is necessary, and students are encouraged to go at their own pace. Chairs will be provided at the Village Green Center. The class is taught by Margaret Armour, Certified Nia Instructor, who provides music from around the world and what she calls “a surprisingly inspiring workout that will leave you toned, strong and balanced.” Students with caretakers or special needs are welcome. The class size is limited to 13 students, and a drop-in option is available. For more information, check the Autumn Recreation Guide or call Kelli Hedding at (847) 291-2369. ###

Helmets and other protective equipment are recommended. The all-concrete skate park is designed for skateboards and inline skates only; bicycles are not allowed. The skate park has lights on every night until 10pm. ###

Y’ALL COME CHOIR TO PERFORM NEW MASTERWORK
(Ref:# 0726-10) The Y’All Come Choir of Northbrook and the Chicago Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation are pleased to announce a unique musical event called Sing for the Cure®, A Proclamation of Hope. Two performances, with orchestra and choir, are scheduled for June 7 and June 8, 2008 at the Field School and will feature a well-known narrator to be announced in January.

The performance is described as an awareness concert. “Sing for the Cure gives us an unusual opportunity to further the message of hope for all people affected by breast cancer,” said Susan Young, Director of the Y’All Come Choir. “Many people will be moved by the libretto, which is both poignant and humorous, as well as by the rich and beautiful musical score. We are very excited to share this new way of spreading the life-saving message of early detection.”

Composed for the Komen Foundation, Sing for the Cure is a symphonic song cycle dedicated to breast cancer survivors, their families and friends. Librettist Pamela Martin of Austin, Texas incorporated the stories of breast cancer survivors and their loved ones into 10 songs. Then, 10 composers wrote the scores, reflecting the tone and meaning of the lyrics.

Singers are invited to join the Y’All Come Choir and contribute their voices to this unique musical experience. The choir, which does not require auditions, is affiliated with the Northbrook Park District and performs at many area venues. Members will meet on Monday evenings, beginning on September 10, 2007 at the Northbrook Leisure Center. Registration is required. For more information about the choir or Sing for the Cure, contact Susan Young at (847) 291-2960, extension 165.
