TEEN FITNESS AND TRAINING (Ref:# 0124-1) For teens only: A new program from the Northbrook Park District allows teenagers to work with a certified personal trainer, designing a custom fitness program to meet their goals. Teens can work individually with a trainer or get together with a group of friends or teammates. The trainer and the Park District will provide the equipment and the space. Teens can choose the time of the workout and the elements, which can include yoga, kickboxing, strength training, balance and agility training, jumping and power training and flexibility and range-of-motion training. GLITZY GIRLZ SLUMBER PARTY (Ref:#0124-2) Glitzy Girlz is hosting a pretend slumber party on Thursday, January 31, from 6:30-8pm, with music, games, snacks and decorating projects at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Participants will design an overnight bag, pillowcase, book marker and secret dairy and enjoy popcorn and fruit smoothies during the event. TWO-FOR-ONE SKATING SPECIAL (Ref:#0124-3) In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Northbrook Sports Center is offering two-for-one prices on public skating, from February 9 through February 14. During public skating times, any couple can skate for the price of one. Adult fees are $5 and youth are $4; rental skates are available. The Sports Center is located at 1730 Pfingsten Road. PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSES (Ref:# 0124-4) Open Houses for Sunshine Preschool and Terrific Twos will be held on February 12 at 6:30pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Sunshine Preschool serves children ages 3-5 years, with classes meeting 2, 3 or 4 times per week; the schedule follows the calendar of the local school district. Terrific Twos is a transitional preschool program for 2-year-olds, with parents or caregivers attending the first few weeks of classes. DISHIN’ IN THE KITCHEN (Ref:#0124-5) Enjoy fine dining in the comfort of your home with a new cooking workshop from the Northbrook Park District, called “Dishin’ in the Kitchen.” The second tasty offering is No Reservations Weeknight Meals on Thursday, February 21 from 6:30-9pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Adults can learn to prepare quick weeknight meals such as mini turkey meatloaf with sweet chili glaze, spinach and three-cheese stuffed chicken breast and marinated flank steak. PARTIES WITH THE PARK DISTRICT (Ref:#0124-6) Planning a party? The Northbrook Park District offers a variety of party packages in several locations. At the Leisure Center, the choices include sports, clay play, t-shirt decorating, crafts and magic parties. The Performing Arts Department can entertain with a dance party, theatrical parties and a royal birthday party. The Northbrook Sports Center provides skating and non-skating parties, room rentals, private ice rentals, broomball parties and complete food service. The Village Green Center has a large room available for birthdays, showers and other family parties. For an unusual party, the Northbrook Climbing Tower is available with trained facilitators. And, Sportsman’s Country Club is available for corporate meetings, parties and showers. SLEDDING, SKATING AND SKIING (Ref:# 0124-7) The Northbrook Park District invites everyone to enjoy the thrill of sports and the beauty of winter scenery with outdoor facilities for skating, sledding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Two ice rinks welcome skaters – Meadowhill Rink, adjacent to Northbrook Junior High School, and the Tower Rink, behind Village Hall. Both rinks open at 4pm on weekdays and Noon on weekends, and both provide lights for evening skating.
For downhill excitement, the Park District offers two sled hills, at Wood Oaks Green and Techny Prairie Park and Fields. The latter is fully lighted during the evening hours. Sled hill hours are as follows:

Sportsman’s Country Club offers groomed trails for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing and rents equipment at the golf shop between 9am and 3pm. A six-to-eight inch snow base is required before skiing will be permitted. Please call the golf shop at (847) 291-2351, extension 3, to make sure conditions are favorable for skiing. ###
DADDY/DAUGHTER DANCE (Ref:#0124-8) January 25 is the early registration deadline for a magical evening ― the annual Daddy/Daughter Dance from the Northbrook Park District. The popular tradition returns on February 7 and February 8, when dads are invited to escort their daughters to a Valentine’s dance from 6:30-8:30pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Photographs, goodie bags and a make-your-own sundae bar are included in the evening. Dads can enroll for only one evening, and space is limited. The early, discounted fee is $45 for Northbrook Park District residents and $50 for non-residents. Additional daughters can attend for $20. BOARD MEETING JANUARY 30 (Ref:# 0124-9) The Northbrook Park District Board of Commissioners will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 30 at 7pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. GOLF RESIDENT DISCOUNT CARD (Ref:# 0124-10) Think golf and save some green! Golfers can save money by purchasing resident discount cards before the end of February. Cards are available to all Northbrook Park District residents 12 years and older for a reduced fee of $25. The regular fee of $50 will begin on March 1. The cards allow for reduced fees and advance tee time reservations at Sportsman’s Country Club and reduced fees at Anetsberger Golf Course. MAHJONG CLASSES
(Ref:# 0124-11) The Northbrook Park District Senior Center will offer a series of Mahjong classes beginning February 4 at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Classes will be held on Monday mornings from 9:15-11:15am; another session will be held at the same time on Wednesdays, beginning February 6.
