CELL PHONE CLASSES
(Ref:# 0117-1) Adults can connect to the latest in cell phone technology, with a series of three classes from the Northbrook Park District, beginning on Thursday, February 7, called
How to Use Your Cell Phone. Participants should bring their cell phones and chargers to class and will learn how to store names and numbers, how to store and send pictures and how to use Blue Tooth technology, if applicable. Classes will be held from 9:30 to 11:30am at the Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. The fee for three classes is $100 for Senior Center members and $110 for nonmembers. PARK LARKS TO PERFORM
(Ref:# 0117-2) The Park Larks, a Northbrook Park District singing group, will perform on Wednesday, January 23, at Brandel Care Center, 2155 Pfingsten Road in Northbrook, beginning at 2pm. Senior adults who enjoy Broadway show tunes are invited to join the group, which rehearses on Thursday mornings at the Northbrook Leisure Center, under the direction of former concert pianist Evelyn Binz. SUPER BOWL PARTY FOOD
(Ref:#0117-3) Get ready to feed a crowd with the cooking class, Super Bowl Party Food, on Friday, January 25 at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. The class, from 6:30-9pm, is part of a new workshop series from the Northbrook Park District, called “Dishin’ in the Kitchen.” Participants will learn to prepare mozzarella stuffed breadsticks, beef satay, BBQ pulled chicken sandwiches, dip and two desserts. The fee is $65 for Northbrook Park District residents and $70 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. SPORTING ENCOUNTERS PLUS LUNCH
(Ref:#0117-4) A new session of
Sporting Encounters plus Lunch will begin on January 18 for children in preschool or kindergarten. Girls and boys ages 4-5 can head to the Leisure Center gym after school for sporting fun. They’ll learn basic skills of soccer, basketball, floor hockey and T-ball, taught by SportsKids staff. The program will meet on Fridays from 11:45am to 1:15pm, and the fee for 8 classes is $96 for Northbrook Park District residents and $101 for nonresidents. Children should bring lunch and a drink. DIGITAL MOVIE MAKING
(Ref:# 0117-5) Students will be able to shoot their own videos and make movies with a new class from the Northbrook Park District., beginning on January 22. Designed for ages 8-12, the class will meet on Tuesdays from 4-5pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Participants will be able to edit their movies, adding titles, credits, animation, music and special effects, and they’ll take home a CD/DVD of the finished product. GPS ADVENTURES
(Ref:# 0117-6) Beginning on January 23, a new program called
Adventures with GPS Receivers will teach children basic orienteering and introduce them to Geo-Caching, an outdoor adventure hobby that uses Global Positioning Satellite devices. The series of Wednesday afternoon classes will be held at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Students will set out on a “geo-safari” and be able to blog about their adventures. The program is designed for ages 8 and up; the fee for eight classes is $171 for residents and $176 for nonresidents. PRINCESS CRAFT BREAKFAST
(Ref:#0117-7) On Saturday, January 26, girls can enjoy a Kreative Kreations Princess Craft Breakfast from 10-11am at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Participants can dress in a princess outfit and will design their own crowns, jewels and purses. The program is designed for children ages 3-12; girls ages 3-5 must attend with an adult. The fee is $33 for Northbrook Park District residents and $38 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. KINDERMUSIK® CLASSES
(Ref:#0117-8) Self-confidence, self-control and communication are the goals of Kindermusik® – Our Time, a music and movement class for very young children, beginning on January 31 at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. The program is designed for children from 18 months of age through 3 ½ years to attend with a parent. CDs, activity books and a simple instrument are included. Classes will meet on Thursday mornings from 9:30-10:20am for 15 weeks. The fee is $209 for Northbrook Park District residents and $214 for nonresidents. BABYSITTING CERTIFICATION
(Ref:#0117-9) Certified Red Cross instructors will teach the proper techniques for babysitting in two Saturday classes ― January 26 and February 2 ― at the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Students can learn about emergency and non-emergency situations, basic first aid and taking care of infants. The classes are open to girls and boys age 11 or older and will meet from 1-5:30pm. Students must attend both classes to receive certification. The fee for both classes is $85 for Northbrook Park District residents and $90 for nonresidents. DADDY/DAUGHTER DANCE
(Ref:#0117-10) January 25 is the early registration deadline for a magical evening ― the annual Daddy/Daughter Dance from the Northbrook Park District. The popular tradition returns on February 7 and February 8, when dads are invited to escort their daughters to a formal Valentine’s dance from 6:30-8:30pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Photographs, goodie bags and a make-your-own sundae bar are included in the evening. Dads can enroll for only one evening, and space is limited. The early, discounted fee is $45 for Northbrook Park District residents and $50 for non-residents. Additional daughters can attend for $20. WINTER SURVIVAL WALK
(Ref:# 0117-11) Children can discover how plants and animals cope with the cold during a snowshoe walk on Monday, February 18 at 3pm at the Trail Through Time. The one-hour program is designed for ages 8 and up and is available for Scout groups, as well. The Northbrook Park District will provide the snowshoes; the fee is $7 for Park District residents and $9 for nonresidents.
