PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSES (Ref:# 0207-1) Open Houses for Sunshine Preschool and Terrific Twos will be held on February 12 at 6:30pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Sunshine Preschool serves children between the ages of 3 to 5, with classes meeting 2, 3 or 4 times per week; the schedule follows the calendar of the local school district. Terrific Twos is a transitional preschool program for 2-year-olds, with parents or caregivers attending the first few weeks of classes. WINTER SURVIVAL WALK (Ref:# 0207-2) Children can discover how plants and animals cope with the cold during a snowshoe walk on Monday, February 18 at 3pm at the Trail Through Time in Techny Prairie Park and Fields, 1750 Techny Road. The one-hour program is designed for ages 8 and up and is available for Scout groups, as well. TWO-FOR-ONE SKATING SPECIAL (Ref:#0207-3) In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Northbrook Sports Center is offering two-for-one prices on public skating, from February 9 through February 13. During public skating times, any couple can skate for the price of one. Adult fees are $5 and youth are $4; rental skates are available. The Sports Center is located at 1730 Pfingsten Road. COOKING CLASS (Ref:# 0207-4) Adults can make reservations for a new cooking class, No Reservations Weeknight Meals, to be held on February 21 from 6:30-9:30pm at the Northbrook Park District Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Participants can learn to plan and prepare quick and delicious meals with shortcuts to help with the evening rush. The fee is $65 for Northbrook Park District residents and $70 for nonresidents. AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM (Ref:# 0207-5) On February 11 and 12, adults can refresh their driving skills with a two-day class at the Northbrook Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Geared to drivers age 50 and over, the AARP Driver Safety Program consists of two four-hour sessions, from 9am-1pm both days, with a trained State of Illinois Driver Safety Program instructor. The fee is $10 to cover materials. Any licensed driver may attend, regardless of age. Class size is limited. To register or get more information, call (847) 291-2988. ###
GOLF RESIDENT DISCOUNT CARD (Ref:# 0207-6) Golfers who are on the ball can save money with an early fee for resident discount cards until the end of February. Cards are available to all Northbrook Park District residents 12 years and older for a reduced fee of $25. The regular fee of $50 will begin on March 1. The cards allow for reduced fees and advance tee time reservations at Sportsman’s Country Club and reduced fees at Anetsberger Golf Course. Resident discount cards can be purchased at Sportsman’s Golf Shop, with a valid photo ID and current utility bill to prove residency. For more information, call (847) 291-2351, extension 3. ###
MOTHER/DAUGHTER LOCKETS OF LOVE (Ref:# 0207-7) Girls can enjoy a Valentine’s Day jewelry event on February 11, with Glitzy Girlz: Mother/Daughter Lockets of Love, from 6:30-7:45pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Participants will create engraved heart locket necklaces, bracelets and zipper pulls. The evening event, designed for girls age 4-11, also includes a dessert treat. The fee is $34 for Northbrook Park District residents and $39 for nonresidents. Additional children can attend for $31; girls also can attend with a favorite adult.
