MARDI GRAS PARTY (Ref:# 0228-2) On Friday, March 7, the Northbrook Park District Senior Center will host a Mardi Gras Party, with food, games and a carnival atmosphere at the Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, beginning at 11:30am. Costumes, masks and beads will be part of the celebration, and there will be a prize for the best costume. The fee is $15 for Senior Center members and $25 for nonmembers. This new event is sponsored by Partners in Senior Care, Inc. To register or get more information, call (847) 291-2988. ###
AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM (Ref:# 0228-3) On March 17 and 18, adults can refresh their driving skills with a two-day class at the Northbrook Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Geared to drivers age 50 and over, the AARP Driver Safety Program consists of two four-hour sessions, from 9am-1pm both days, with a trained State of Illinois Driver Safety Program instructor. The fee is $10 to cover materials. Any licensed driver may attend, regardless of age, but class size is limited. To register or get more information, call (847) 291-2988. ###
SOCCER REGISTRATION DEADLINE (Ref:# 0228-4) The registration deadline for Spring Soccer with the Northbrook Park District is Friday, February 29 at 5pm. The program teaches soccer play in a fun and noncompetitive atmosphere, with volunteer coaches focusing on skill development, good sportsmanship and fitness. Teams are formed by school; practices will begin the week of April 7, with games scheduled to start on April 12 and 13. Registration is accepted at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. SPRING BREAK DEADLINE (Ref:# 0228-5) March 3 is the registration deadline for Spring Break Escapes with the Northbrook Park District. On March 24 through March 28, the Park District will offer exciting field trips and an action-packed day at the Leisure Center for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The choices are:
March 24― Shedd Aquarium
March 25― Rock Climbing at Vertical Endeavors
March 26― Swimming at Splash Landings
March 27― Laser Zone
March 28― Kids’ Day at the Leisure Center
The fee is $40 per day for Northbrook Park District residents and $45 for nonresidents. The programs are open to the public, but Adventure Campus participants receive priority and are considered residents. Extended care is available before and after each program for an additional fee. TRIP TO BULLS GAME (Ref:# 0228-6) The Northbrook Park District invites students in grades 6-12 to a special field trip to the United Center on March 14, to watch the Chicago Bulls take on the Philadelphia 76ers. A bus will depart from the Leisure Center at 6pm and return at approximately 11pm. Parents are welcome to join this trip. The fee is $50 for Northbrook Park District residents and $60 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. PUBLIC ICE SKATING (Ref:# 0228-7) The Northbrook Sports Center has announced its schedule of public ice skating for the month of March. The schedule is as follows:
Mornings
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 10:30am-Noon
Afternoons
Wednesday: 4-5:15pm
Saturday: 4-5:15pm
Sunday: 3-4:15pm
Nights
Friday: 8-10pm, Cosmic Skating
There will be no public skating on Sunday, March 2, and the Sports Center will be closed on Easter, March 23. The fee for public skating is $5 per adult, $4 per youth and $2 per child under age 5. The Northbrook Park District provides rental skates for $3 per pair. Discounted coupon books are available for 10 admissions and discounted punch cards for 10 skate rentals. SCHOOL’S OUT FUN ― MARCH TRIPS (Ref:# 0228-8) The Northbrook Park District is offering two School’s Out Fun trips on March holidays, for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. On Pulaski Day, March 3, a group will travel to the Chicago Children’s Museum, leaving the Leisure Center at 9am and returning by 3pm. And, on Good Friday, March 21, the Park District will take students to the Enchanted Castle in Lombard for a day of arcade games and a pizza lunch. KREATIVE KREATIONS―SPRINGTIME BUNNIES (Ref:# 0228-9) Boys and girls can create cuddly stuffed bunnies in a new program on March 11 from Kreative Kreations. The children will stuff large bunnies, decorate t-shirts, make bunny collars and fill out birth certificates for their new pets. Designed for children ages 3-12, the program will take place at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue from 6:30-7:30pm. Children ages 3-5 must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $38 for Northbrook Park District residents and $43 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations, by mail or online at www.nbparks.org. KINDER KAMPUS INFORMATION SESSION (Ref:# 0228-10) On Wednesday, March 5, parents can attend a Kinder Kampus Information Session at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue, at 6pm. Kinder Kampus is an enrichment program for kindergarten students in School Districts #27 and #30, offered in the mornings and afternoons. During the 2008-2009 school year, children will be able to attend 2, 3 or 5 days per week. Early registration will be available from March 10-19 for working parents who want their children to attend five days per week.
