HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
(Ref:# 0214-1) On Monday, February 18, the Northbrook Park District will offer two programs for children during the Presidents’ Day holiday ― a School’s Out Fun trip to GameWorks in Schaumburg and a Winter Survival Walk at the Trail Through Time in Techny Prairie Park and Fields. Regular Park District classes will not meet on the holiday, and all Registration and Administration offices will be closed. Classes will resume and offices will reopen for business on Tuesday, February 19. For more information, call (847) 291-2980.  ###

COOKING CLASS
(Ref:# 0214-2) Adults can get cooking with the Northbrook Park District in a new class, No Reservations Weeknight Meals, to be held on February 21 from 6:30-9:30pm at the Northbrook Park District Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Participants can learn to plan and prepare quick and delicious meals with shortcuts to help with the evening rush. The fee is $65 for Northbrook Park District residents and $70 for nonresidents. DEADLINE FOR ENCHANTED CASTLE TRIP
(Ref:# 0214-3) February 21 is the deadline to register for a trip to Enchanted Castle on March 21, when schools are closed for the Good Friday holiday. The Northbrook Park District will take students in kindergarten through 8th grade to the popular arcade in Lombard. Pizza and soda will be included, along with game tokens and coupons. Participants will meet at the Leisure Center at 9am for the trip and should return by 3pm. The fee is $40-45, depending on residency, and extended care is available before or after the trip for an additional fee. SPRING SOCCER DEADLINE
(Ref:# 0214-4) The registration deadline for Spring Soccer with the Northbrook Park District is February 29 at 5pm. The District provides a house league with an emphasis on the development of the child as an individual and an athlete, rather than an emphasis on the competitive aspect of winning. The goal of the program is to provide a fun and safe atmosphere in which children can learn respect, sportsmanship and soccer skills. Teams are formed by school, with volunteers trained by the Park District serving as coaches. Registration is available online at www.nbparks.org or in person at all customer service locations. SPRING BREAK DEADLINE
(Ref:# 0214-5) March 3 is the registration deadline for Spring Break Escapes with the Northbrook Park District. On March 24 through March 28, the Park District will offer exciting field trips and an action-packed day at the Leisure Center for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The choices are:

    March 24― Shedd Aquarium
    March 25― Rock Climbing at Vertical Endeavors
    March 26― Swimming at Splash Landings
    March 27― Laser Zone
    March 28― Kids’ Day at the Leisure Center

The fee is $40 per day for Northbrook Park District residents and $45 for nonresidents. The programs are open to the public, but Adventure Campus participants receive priority and are considered residents. Extended care is available before and after each program for an additional fee. PARTIES WITH THE PARK DISTRICT
(Ref:#0214-7) Planning a party? The Northbrook Park District offers a variety of party options in several locations. The Northbrook Sports Center provides skating and non-skating parties, room rentals, private ice rentals, broomball parties and food service. At the Leisure Center, the choices include sports, clay play, t-shirt decorating, crafts and magic parties. The Performing Arts Department can entertain with a dance party, theatrical parties and a royal birthday party. The Village Green Center has a large room available for birthdays, showers and other family parties. For an unusual party, the Northbrook Climbing Tower is available with trained facilitators. And, Sportsman’s Country Club is available for corporate meetings, parties and showers. COSMIC VALENTINE SKATING
(Ref:# 0214-8) On Friday, February 15, the Northbrook Sports Center will offer a Valentine’s Night of Cosmic Skating, with games, prizes, music and theatrical lighting from 8-10pm. Everyone is welcome, and regular skating prices apply. The fee for public skating is $5 per adult, $4 per youth and $2 per child under age 5. The Northbrook Park District provides rental skates for $3 per pair. The Sports Center is located at 1730 Pfingsten Road. For more information, call (847) 291-2993. ###

NEW SENIOR TRIPS
(Ref:# 0214-9) Registration is underway for new trips from the Northbrook Park District Senior Center, including a romantic comedy, an adult comedy featuring puppets and a return to the Oneida Casino in Green Bay with an optional mystery trip on the side. On April 30, a group will travel to the Northlight Theatre to see “Better Late,” starring John Mahoney and Mike Nussbaum. The casino trip begins May 18 with a welcome reception and deluxe room at the Radisson Hotel for two nights. And, on June 4, seniors can enjoy the award-winning “Avenue Q” at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, with lunch at Scoozi. The following theatre trip has very limited availability: “Blue Man Group” at the Briar Street Theatre in Chicago on March 19, with lunch at Soprano’s. Other upcoming theatre trips include “Barefoot in the Park” in June and “Dirty Dancing” at the Cadillac Palace” in October. For more information, call the Senior Center at (847) 291-2988. ###

PARK LARKS PERFORMANCES
(Ref:# 0214-11) The Park Larks, a Northbrook Park District singing group, will perform on Wednesday, February 20 at The Ponds, 150 Jamestown Lane in Lincolnshire, beginning at 2:30pm. The concert is open to everyone. Other upcoming performances include:

    March 6 at Oakbrook Healthcare Center, 2013 Midwest Road, Oakbrook at 2pm,
    April 10 at The Seasons of Glenview Place, 4501 Concord Lane, Northbrook at 2pm, and
    April 29 at Gidwitz Place for Assisted Living, 1601 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield at 2pm.

Senior adults who enjoy Broadway show tunes are invited to join the group, which rehearses on Thursday mornings at the Northbrook Leisure Center, under the direction of former concert pianist Evelyn Binz. Both men and women are welcome to join the Park Larks at any time after becoming members of the Senior Center. For more information, call the Center at (847) 291-2988.  ###
