PARK DESIGN AWARD
(Ref:#1227-11) Techny Prairie Park and Fields is a winner - in the field of design. Earlier this month, the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) honored the Northbrook Park District and the Hitchcock Design Group with a Merit Award in the Public Design category. The Design Group worked with the Park District to create a distinctive recreational area that combines ball fields, batting cages, a skate park and artificial turf soccer fields with a golf course, fishing pond, playground, pathway system and the educational Trail Through Time. This was the second design award for the park. In 2005, the Trail Through Time received an Outstanding Facility and Parks Award from the Illinois Park and Recreation Association. ###

SUMMER DRAMA DISCOUNT DEADLINE
(Ref:# 1227-1) Parents can lock in summer plans and save money at the same time. An early registration discount is available until December 28 for Summer Drama Workshops from the Northbrook Park District. To receive the special preregistration rate, payment in full must be received by Noon on Friday, December 28, 2007. The summer workshops include Babes on Broadway for children in grades 1-2, Creative Drama for grades 3-5 and Theatre Arts, for grades 6-10. CARDIO RHYTHMICS STARTING
(Ref:# 1227-3) The winter session of Cardio-Rhythmics will begin on January 4, offering co-ed exercise classes on Mondays and Fridays from 9:15-10:15am at the Leisure Center. Classes will focus on cardio fitness, joint flexibility and muscle strengthening with the use of light weights, with an emphasis on stretching and exercises for strengthening the lower back. Admission to all classes is by punch card or drop-in fee of $5 per class, if space is available. Discounted punch cards for 12-sessions and 24-sessions are available at the Senior Center office. EARLY MORNING FITNESS
(Ref:# 1227-4) Rise and shine for fitness! Beginning on January 14, you can start your day with an indoor walk or jog inside the Glenbrook North Fieldhouse from 6-7:15am. This free program operates on the school calendar and is closed on all school holidays. For more information, call (847) 291-2980.  ###

DIGITAL CAMERA CLASSES
(Ref:# 1227-5) Adults can learn how to use digital cameras in a series of four classes, beginning on January 10 at the Northbrook Park District Senior Center. The classes will be held on Thursdays, from 9:30-11:30am. Participants will learn to transfer pictures to a computer and adjust picture quality. Basic knowledge of the Windows 95, 98, ME or XP Operating System is a prerequisite. The fee for four classes is $120 for Senior Center members and $130 for nonmembers. WINTER CARNIVAL
(Ref:# 1227-6) On Saturday, January 5, families can celebrate the season with a Winter Carnival at the Village Green from 11:30am-2:30pm. The annual event from the Northbrook Park District will feature horse-drawn wagon rides, ice sculpture demonstrations, games and prizes, a bonfire, art projects and a chili cook-off. Judging for the cook-off will begin at 1pm, followed by the awarding of prizes and a public tasting. Free hot chocolate and coffee will be available, while supplies last. Food also will be available for purchase. To register for the cook-off or get more information, call (847) 291-2980.  ###

Y'ALL COME SING
(Ref:# 1227-7) The Y'All Come Choir will begin its winter season on Monday, January 7, with a 7:30pm meeting at the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Affiliated with the Northbrook Park District, the choir is open to anyone who enjoys singing in a group, from high school students to senior citizens. All voice parts are welcome.
The choir rehearses on Monday evenings and performs at many area venues. No auditions are necessary to join, but a registration fee is required.

Singers who join the Y'All Come Choir by January 28 will be able to participate in a unique musical experience, Sing for the Cure®, A Proclamation of Hope. The event is described as an awareness concert, in connection with the Chicago Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Two performances, with orchestra and choir, are scheduled for June 7 and June 8, 2008 at the Northbrook Theatre, 3323 Walters Avenue. Carl J. Meyer, the orchestra conductor at Glenbrook North and South High Schools, will conduct the program, a symphonic song cycle dedicated to breast cancer survivors, their families and friends. HOLIDAY CLOSINGS
(Ref:# 1227-8) Northbrook Park District classes and programs will not meet on Monday, December 31 and Tuesday, January 1, due to the New Year's holiday. All Park District Registration and Administration offices will be closed as well. Classes will resume and offices will reopen for business on Wednesday, January 2. The Adult/Senior Center will reopen for classes and drop-in programs on January 2. ###

MEDEIVAL TIMES TRIP
(Ref:# 1227-9) December 28 is the deadline to register for a special School's Out presentation, a trip to Medieval Times in Schaumburg on January 21, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Students can travel back to the Middle Ages and watch spectacular horsemanship, exciting swordplay and games of skill in a castle. The group will enjoy an entertaining and educational jousting competition and a pizza banquet. The trip is open to children in grades K-8, who will meet at the Leisure Center at 9am and return at 3pm. The fee is $40 for Northbrook Park District residents and $45 for nonresidents. Adventure Campus participants receive priority and are considered residents; extended care is available before and after the trip. TEEN FITNESS AND TRAINING
(Ref:# 1227-10) For teens only: A new program from the Northbrook Park District allows teenagers to work with a certified personal trainer, designing a custom fitness program to meet their goals. Teens can work individually with a trainer or get together with a group of friends or teammates. The trainer and the Park District will provide the equipment and the space. Teens can choose the time of the workout and the elements, which can include yoga, kickboxing, strength training, balance and agility training, jumping and power training and flexibility and range-of-motion training. Pricing will vary according to the length of the session. Call George at (847) 291-2369, extension 126, to set up a time to discuss specific goals and interests. ###
