HOLIDAY CLOSINGS
(Ref:# 1220-1) Northbrook
Park District classes and programs will not meet on Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25, due to the Christmas holiday. All Park District Registration and Administration offices will be closed as well. Classes will resume and offices will reopen for business on Wednesday, December 26.

For the New Year’s holiday, Park District offices will close and programs will not meet on Monday, December 31 and Tuesday, January 1. The Adult/Senior Center will close on December 24, and classes and programs will resume on January 2. ###

PRE-NEW YEAR’S SKATE PARTY
(Ref:# 1220-2) The Northbrook Sports Center is hosting a pre-New Year’s Party on the ice on Friday, December 28 from 8-10pm. The celebration will feature
Cosmic Skating, with theatrical lighting, special effects, games and contests and a professional DJ playing the hits. Everyone is welcome, and regular skating prices apply. The Sports Center is located at 1730 Pfingsten Road. For more information, contact (847) 291-2993.  ###

FIRESIDE ON THE TRAIL
(Ref:# 1220-3) On January 15, a school holiday, students can explore the prairie in winter, with a new program from the Northbrook Park District,
Fireside on the Trail. Students can cook s’mores over a campfire and look for signs of animal life on the Trail Through Time, in Techny Prairie Park and Fields. The program, from 3-4pm, is designed for children ages 8 and older. The fee is $7 for Northbrook Park District residents and $10 for nonresidents. WINTER CARNIVAL
(Ref:# 1220-4) Whatever the weather, families can celebrate the season with a Winter Carnival at the Village Green on Saturday, January 5, from 11:30am-2:30pm. The annual event from the Northbrook Park District will feature horse-drawn wagon rides, ice sculpture demonstrations, games and prizes, a bonfire and a chili cook-off. Judging for the cook-off will begin at 1pm, followed by the awarding of prizes and a public tasting. Food also will be available for purchase. PARK LARKS TO PERFORM
(Ref:# 1220-5) The Park Larks, a Northbrook Park District singing group, will perform twice in January. On Wednesday, January 9, the group will sing at 1:30pm at Lieberman Geriatric Health Center, 9700 Gross Point Road in Skokie. And, on Wednesday, January 23, the singers will entertain at Brandel Care Center, 2155 Pfingsten Road in Northbrook, beginning at 2pm. Senior adults who enjoy Broadway show tunes are invited to join the group, which rehearses on Thursday mornings at the Northbrook Leisure Center, under the direction of former concert pianist Evelyn Binz. Both men and women are welcome and can join at any time after becoming members of the Senior Center. For more information, please call the Center at (847) 291-2988.  ###

KICKBOXING
(Ref:# 1220-6) Beginning on January 8, adults can get a taste of aerobics, western boxing and TaeKwonDo in a kickboxing fitness program,
CARDIO-TKD, at the Oriental Arts Training Center, at 3141 Dundee Road. Classes will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-10:45am. The fee for 11 classes is $99 for Northbrook Park District residents and $124 for nonresidents. The program will introduce students to basic techniques, such as punching, kicking and defensive moves, while increasing flexibility and strengthening core muscle groups. CAFÉ AMIGOS
(Ref:# 1220-7) Hola!
Café Amigos will open for business on January 18, allowing preschoolers to learn Spanish while lunching with friends. Theme days, songs, art and games are part of the new program from the Northbrook Park District for children who are 4 or 5. Children will bring a lunch and drink to the program, which is scheduled on Fridays from 11:30am to 1pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Children who attend Sunshine Preschool on Friday mornings can extend their day with the class. The cost of the nine-week program is $176 for Northbrook Park District residents and $181 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. STORY TIME LUNCH BUNCH
(Ref:# 1220-8) A new session of Story Time Lunch Bunch will begin in January, offering fun and friendship for preschool children at the Leisure Center. The children just need to bring lunch, and the program will provide stories and art projects. Children can come after Sunshine Preschool to extend their day but do not need to be in a preschool program to attend. The program is designed for children ages 3 ˝ to 5 and will be offered from 11:30am-12:45pm on Mondays, beginning January 14, and on Thursdays beginning on January 17. PRESCHOOLER’S DAY TO PLAY
(Ref:# 1220-9) Games, songs, stories, art projects and free play are part of
Preschooler’s Day to Play, a program that begins a new session in mid-January at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Children between the ages of 3 ˝ and 5 years can attend on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays from 11:45am to 1:45pm; they should bring lunch and a drink. SPORTING ENCOUNTERS PLUS LUNCH
(Ref:# 1220-10) A new session of
Sporting Encounters plus Lunch will begin on January 18 for children in preschool or kindergarten. Girls and boys ages 4-5 can head to the Leisure Center gym after school for sporting fun. They’ll learn basic skills of soccer, basketball, floor hockey and T-ball, taught by SportsKids staff. The program will meet on Fridays from 11:45am to 1:15pm, and the fee for 8 classes is $96 for Northbrook Park District residents and $101 for nonresidents. Children should bring lunch and a drink. RESIDENTIAL NEWSLETTER MAILING

(Ref:# 1220-11) A member of the Northbrook Park District Senior Center dances her way through a national pageant in Las Vegas. A new program will serve Spanish lessons to preschoolers during lunch. And, a search is on to find a new leader for the Northbrook Park District. You can find details about those stories, along with an advance look at the choices for summer camps, in the January/February Residential Newsletter. And, you’ll learn how a group of travelers lived their dreams on a recent trip across Europe. Look for the newsletter in your mail at the end of December. ###
