SINGING COMPETITION AUDITIONS
(Ref:# 0405-1) Get ready to step up and sing! Auditions will be held on April 25 and April 28 for the iLoveNorthbrook Singing Competition, a friendly contest to find the best singer in Northbrook. The competition, returning for a second year, will take place during Park Fest concerts at the Village Green this summer. Auditions are on April 25 from 7-9pm and April 28 from 3:30-6:30pm at the Village Green Center, 1810 Walters Avenue. Any resident of Northbrook can audition, but contestants must register in advance. Eight semifinalists will be chosen to advance to the next level, singing on stage at Park Fest. The Northbrook Park District is hosting the iLoveNorthbrook Singing Competition in partnership with Barbara Byrne and Kati Spaniak of Prudential Preferred Properties, the sponsors of Park Fest. JUNIOR GOLF PROGRAM STARTING
(Ref:# 0405-2) A new Junior Golf Development Program begins on April 7, combining the fun of golf with a focus on skills development for boys and girls ages 8-16. The program from Sportsman’s Country Club and the Northbrook Golf Academy begins with a series of five one-hour sessions, in which students will learn the rules of the game, etiquette and safety, as well as the basic skills of the short game and full swing. After they’ve completed Phase 1, students can participate in weekly Junior Golf League events. The new golf program replaces the traditional golf camps to concentrate on skills and individual performance progressions. Students will need to pass a test before they can advance to each level of instruction. Children who already have taken lessons with the Northbrook Golf Academy or other academies may test out of Phase 1. Class dates and times are listed in the Spring/Summer Recreation Guide. KIDS FISHING DERBY
(Ref:# 0405-3) Save the date of May 19 for a Kids Fishing Derby at Lake Shermerville in Wood Oaks Green from noon until 2pm. Prizes will be awarded to boys and girls in two age groups: 4-8 years and 9-12 years. Children can bring a rod or borrow one from the Park District, and fishing licenses are not needed during the derby. Hot dogs and snacks will be available. FREE LINE DANCE CLASS
(Ref:# 0405-5) Get your toes tappin’ with a free line dancing class from the Northbrook Senior Center on Thursday, April 12 at 7pm. No partner is necessary. Try the class and then sign up for Dancing with Country Bernie, a series of classes starting in April or in June. Classes are held on Thursday nights from 7 to 8pm at the Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. For more information, check the Spring/Summer Recreation Guide or call (847) 291-2988.  ###

BABYSITTING CLASSES
(Ref:# 0405-6) A two-day class on babysitting skills begins on April 7 from the Northbrook Park District. Under the guidance of certified Red Cross instructors, participants will learn how to handle a full range of babysitting responsibilities, including emergency procedures, infant care, basic first aid, feeding, diapering and safe play procedures. The co-ed course will be offered on April 7 and April 14 from 1 to 5:30pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Students must be at least 11 years old. At the end of the training, they will be Red Cross certified. The fee is $85 for Northbrook Park District residents and $90 for non-residents, and enrollment is limited to 12 students. TINY TOT OLYMPICS
(Ref:# 0405-7) Everyone will be a winner at the new Tiny Tot Olympics on Saturday, April 28 at the Northbrook Leisure Center. Children ages 3 to 5 will compete in a series of activities designed to test their abilities. Competing against a clock and not against each other, all participants will receive an award. The Olympics will run from 11am until noon, and the fee is $5 per child. Registration is available online at nbparks.org and at all customer service locations. LITTLE MISS TEA PARTY
(Ref:# 0405-8) Young ladies are invited to attend a Little Miss Tea Party at the Northbrook Park District Leisure Center on May 5, from 1-2pm. Finger sandwiches and dessert will be served, along with tea and juice, and a local singer will provide entertainment. Girls are encouraged to dress up and bring a favorite doll or teddy bear, along with their moms, to this new event. The fee for a girl and parent is $35 for residents and $40 for non-residents. Additional daughters can attend for a fee of $15. Registration is accepted at all customer service locations and online at nbparks.org.   ###

KIDS FEST AND KIDS FLEA MARKET
(Ref:# 0405-9) The award-winning recording artist and educator Nelson Gill will perform at Kids Fest on Saturday, June 23, bringing Caribbean rhythms to the Village Green. Grab a blanket and bring the children to the park for this free event from 10:30 to 11:30am. The upbeat songs will keep the little ones dancing, and the concert is open to all ages. 

Immediately following Kids Fest, the Kids Only Flea Market will open for business in Village Green. Children in grades 1-7 run their own booths, selling games, toys, books and collectibles. The sellers will be charged $5 for a table. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. The deadline for registration is June 9.  ###

LACROSSE LEAGUE FOR GIRLS
(Ref:# 0405-10) A lacrosse league for girls will begin in Northbrook on April 16, with separate levels for beginners and experienced players. The Northbrook Park District is part of a pilot program to introduce girls in the northern suburbs to this fast-paced game. The League will have three levels: 3rd -5th grade, 6th-8th grade beginner and 6th-8th grade experienced. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at nbparks.org. BOOK DRAMATIST BARBARA RINELLA
(Ref:# 0405-12) Save the date of June 1 to laugh out loud, when book dramatist Barbara Rinella presents “I FEEL BAD ABOUT MY NECK And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman” at Chevy Chase Country Club. The book, written by Nora Ephron, offers a frank, funny and moving look at women getting older and dealing with the ups and downs of daily life. The Northbrook Senior Center has arranged for the presentation and lunch, for a fee of $29 for members and $39 for non-members. People can reserve a table of eight or sign up individually. The doors will open at 10am at the club, located at 1000 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling. To get more information or reserve a table, call (847) 291-2988.  ###

SPRING INTO SYNCHRO NIGHT
(Ref:# 0405-13) Bring your family and friends to a night of games, fun and skating on April 20 at the Northbrook Sports Center. The Teams Elite Synchronized Skating Teams are holding a fundraiser from 6-9pm. Everyone will be able to skate during a Cosmic Skating session with spotlights, music and a DC. The synchronized skating teams will perform during the event, which also features balloon pop games, prizes, face painting, a silent auction, snacks and “build your own sundaes.” The Sports Center is located at 1730 Pfingsten Road. Tickets for the event will be sold at the door.  ###
