SINGING COMPETITION AUDITIONS
(Ref:# 0419-2) The search is on for the best singer in Northbrook, so get ready to step up to the microphone! Auditions will be held on April 25 and April 28 for the iLoveNorthbrook Singing Competition, a friendly contest to find the best singer in Northbrook. The competition, returning for a second year, will take place during Park Fest concerts at the Village Green this summer. Auditions are on April 25 from 7-9pm and April 28 from 3:30-6:30pm at the Village Green Center, 1810 Walters Avenue. All ages are welcome. Any resident of Northbrook can audition, but contestants must register in advance. Eight semifinalists will be chosen to advance to the next level, singing on stage at Park Fest. The Northbrook Park District is hosting the iLoveNorthbrook Singing Competition in partnership with Barbara Byrne and Kati Spaniak of Prudential Preferred Properties, the sponsors of Park Fest. GLAMOUR WORKSHOP AND FASHION SHOW
(Ref:# 0419-3) Lights, cameras, glamour! Girls can enjoy a beauty makeover and evening of glamour during a Hollywood Workshop and Fashion Show in Northbrook on April 25. Each girl will design and decorate fashion accessories and can try out hair extensions, makeup and glitter nails. The Northbrook Park District program, led by Glitzy Girlz staff, is designed for ages 4-10. The girls will learn how to walk the “red carpet” and will put on a fashion show the last 15 minutes of class. The program runs from 6-7:30pm at the Leisure Center, and the fee is $33 for residents and $38 for non-residents. KIDS FLEA MARKET
(Ref:# 0419-4) The Kids Only Flea Market will open for business on Saturday, June 23, immediately following Kids Fest in Village Green. Young entrepreneurs can get ready by going through their old games, toys, books and collectibles and deciding what to sell. The kids will be the bosses, running their own booths. The registration deadline is June 9, and the young businessmen and businesswomen must be in grades 1-7. The sellers will be charged $5 for a table. Bicycles, clothing and large items are not allowed in the marketplace. All items must be in good condition and complete. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at nbparks.org. ###

BOARD MEETING APRIL 25
(Ref:# 0419-5) The Northbrook Park District Board of Commissioners will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 25 at 7pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. The public is welcome to attend. Agendas for the monthly meetings are posted online at nbparks.org in the Board meeting section. ###

BOOK DRAMATIST BARBARA RINELLA
(Ref:# 0419-6) Get ready to laugh out loud, when book dramatist Barbara Rinella presents “I FEEL BAD ABOUT MY NECK And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman” on June 1 at Chevy Chase Country Club. The book, written by Nora Ephron, offers a candid, funny and moving look at women getting older and dealing with the ups and downs of daily life. The Northbrook Senior Center has arranged for the presentation and lunch, for a fee of $29 for members and $39 for non-members. People can reserve a table of eight or sign up individually. The doors will open at 10am at the club, located at 1000 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling. To get more information or reserve a table, call (847) 291-2988.  ###

NEW: GIRLS 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
(Ref:# 0419-7) The Northbrook Park District is inviting girls to participate in a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on Sunday, April 22, benefiting the Northbrook Citizens for Drug and Alcohol Awareness. The girls will play in the following divisions: grades 5 and 6, grades 7 and 8 and high school, with awards going to the winners in each division. Teams can have up to four players and will be guaranteed at least two games during the tournament, which will take place at the Glenbrook North High School Field House from 1-6pm. Players do not need to be from Northbrook; all girls are welcome. For more information, call (847) 291-2369.  ###

SPRING INTO SYNCHRO NIGHT
(Ref:# 0419-8) Bring your family and friends to “Spring into Synchro Night” for games, prizes, food, fun and skating on April 20 at the Northbrook Sports Center. The Teams Elite Synchronized Skating Teams are holding a fundraiser from 6-9pm, and they will perform their competitive routines at 8pm. Everyone will be able to skate during a Cosmic Skating session with spotlights, music and a DJ. The event also features face painting, caricature photos, carnival games and prizes, a silent auction, pizza and “build your own sundaes.” There is no charge for admittance, but tickets will be sold for the games and activities. The charge for Cosmic skating is $5 for adults, $4 for youths and $3 for children under 5. The Sports Center is located at 1730 Pfingsten Road in Northbrook. The synchronized teams consist of younger skaters who travel and compete together as a team. ###

NEW SENIOR TRIPS
(Ref:# 0419-9) A Cubs game and a dream cruise are among the new offerings from the Northbrook Senior Center, which offers exciting trips to popular attractions and theatre productions. The upcoming trips include:

    May 30 – Chicago Cubs vs. Florida Marlins (a night game)

    July 25 – “The Odd Couple” with lunch at the Fireside Theatre in Ft. Atkinson

    August 8 – “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” at the Auditorium Theatre with lunch

    August 22 – Odyssey Cruise

    August 26-28 - Soaring Eagle Casino

    October 31 – “Jersey Boys” at the LaSalle Bank Theatre

    October 12-22 - Dream Cruise from Budapest to Dusseldorf

The October cruise - on the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers - promises spectacular views of Gothic cathedrals, castles and historic villages in addition to some of Europe’s most beautiful capitals.
