FLY CASTING CLASSES
(Ref:# 0410-1) Teenagers and adults can learn the sport of fly casting, beginning on Wednesday, May 7 at the Northbrook Park District Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Classes are limited to eight students and will meet from 4:30-6pm; the instructor will have limited rental equipment available on request. The fee for five classes is $110 for Northbrook Park District residents and $120 for nonresidents. Registration is available at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. An intermediate class will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30-8pm; students need permission from the instructor to enroll. For more information, call (847) 291-2980.  ###

CELL PHONE CLASSES
(Ref:# 0410-2) Adults can connect to the latest in cell phone technology, with a series of three classes from the Northbrook Park District, beginning Thursday, May 1, called How to Use Your Cell Phone. Participants should bring their cell phones and chargers to class and will learn how to store names and numbers, how to store and send pictures and how to use Blue Tooth technology, if applicable. Classes will be held from 1-3pm at the Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. The fee for three classes is $100 for Senior Center members and $110 for nonmembers. BARBARA RINELLA TICKETS
(Ref:# 0410-3) Tickets are on sale for a May 23 performance by book dramatist Barbara Rinella at the Chevy Chase Country Club, 1000 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling. The former high school English teacher will present the book Teacher Man, a memoir from Pulitzer-Prize winning author Frank McCourt about his 30-year teaching career in public high schools in New York. The fee for the presentation and lunch is $32 for Northbrook Park District Senior Center members and $42 for nonmembers. Doors open at 11:30am. To reserve a place, call (847) 291-2988. ###

CORPORATE GOLF CARD
(Ref:# 0410-4) Sign up to save some green on the golf green! Employees of any company based in the Northbrook Park District can obtain a corporate card that entitles them to a discount at Sportsman’s Country Club. The card includes 20 18-hole rounds of golf, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, for a fee of $660, which is approximately 20% off the regular fee. KREATIVE KREATIONS DOLL WORKSHOP
(Ref:# 0410-5) On Monday, April 21, girls can decorate a small grass skirt, flowered top and accessories to create a Hawaiian outfit for a favorite doll from 6:30-7:30pm at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. The Kreative Kreations workshop is designed for ages 3-12; children 3-5 must attend with a parent. Outfits will fit American Girl dolls or any 15-18 inch doll. The fee is $34 for Northbrook Park District residents and $43 for nonresidents. Registration is accepted at all customer service locations and online at www.nbparks.org. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
(Ref:# 0410-6) Volunteers are needed to donate an estimated 190 hours of time at Art in the Park, A Northbrook Fine Arts Festival, scheduled for July 12 and 13 at Village Green. The two-day event is co-sponsored by the Northbrook Park District, the Village of Northbrook and the Northbrook Arts Commission and will feature up to 175 juried artists, live music, a community art project, children’s art activities and a silent auction of items from participating artists. The hours are 10am-5pm on Saturday, July 12 and 11am-5pm on Sunday, July 13. To get involved, volunteers should contact Arts Commissioner Brian Bruce at brianbrucesr@sbcglobal.net. ###

AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM
(Ref:# 0410-7) On April 14 and 15, adults can refresh their driving skills with a two-day class at the Northbrook Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Geared to drivers age 50 and over, the AARP Driver Safety Program consists of two four-hour sessions, from 9am-1pm both days, with a trained State of Illinois Driver Safety Program instructor. The fee is $10 to cover materials. Any licensed driver may attend, regardless of age. Class size is limited. To register or get more information, call (847) 291-2988. ###

SWING AWAY: BATTING CAGE HOURS
(Ref:# 0410-8) The batting cages at Techny Prairie Park and Fields are scheduled to swing open on Saturday, April 19, weather permitting. The spring hours of operation are as follows: 4-10pm Monday-Friday and Noon-10pm on weekends. Six batting cages are available, and players can choose to swing at baseballs or 12" softballs, for a fee of $1 for 12 pitches. Groups and teams also can reserve the cages in 30-minute intervals. “ALADDIN” PERFORMANCES
(Ref:# 0410-9) Performances of “Aladdin” will begin on Saturday, April 12 at the Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Avenue in Northbrook. The entertaining show is from the Northbrook Musical Theatre for Young Audiences, a resident company of adult actors performing family-style productions. Performances are on Saturdays through May 24 at 10:30am and 1pm. The musical runs about one hour; all seats are reserved and are priced at $8 in advance and $10 online and on the day of the show. GLASS AS ART
(Ref:# 0410-10) On Friday, April 11, the Senior Center will present Glass as Art, a lecture and display by artist Betty Dustman, an Associate Professor of Art at Loyola University, listed in Who’s Who of American Women. The lecture begins at 9:30am at the Senior Center, 3323 Walters Avenue. Refreshments will be served, and the fee is $3 for Center members and $6 for nonmembers.
