The Northbrook Speed Skating Club, an affiliate of the Park District, has produced an Olympic skater every Winter Games since 1952. This winter two athletes will be representing the Club. Glenbrook South alum Brian Hansen, 27, is heading to his third straight Olympic Games. He finished seventh in the 1,500 meters at the 2014 Games in Sochi and has a silver medal from the team pursuit in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. You can look for him competing in the Men’s 1,500 meters and mass start. Lana Gehring, a 27-year-old from Glenview, who earned a bronze medal at the 2010 Vancouver Games in the 3,000-meter relay, will compete in the Women’s 1,500 meters and 1,000 meters individual events in Pyeongchang. Stay tuned for updates on these two athletes once the Olympics begin February 8. View coverage by NBC 5 of Northbrook Park District’s  long history of Olympic speedskating champions.
